Ana

Amsterdam, Aug 2026

My husband and I hired Louise about 10 days ago after emailing loads of relocation companies in Amsterdam and the area, and none of them were accepting us, so she was the first to say yes. She provided all the support, found us an apartment in one of those newly built buildings, got us a viewing and got us the approval, which was really helpful. The payment arrangement was also really facilitated for us because the relocation came by surprise and we were not ready financially, so that made things easier. In the end we went with accommodation from my husband’s company, but Louise was really open and really ok about everything, and I felt really supported throughout.

Abdullah

The Hague, Jun 2026

I hired Louise about two months ago for a housing search, because the market in the Netherlands is very competitive and it was tough for me to find a house after moving. She helped me find a house in The Hague, and we just finalized it last week and are now in the process of signing the contract. She updated me every week on what she was doing, we got some viewings, and I am satisfied with the process. The price felt reasonable according to the market, although I think they could improve some things to finalize the process faster.

Mercy

Rotterdam, Aug 2026

I have been working with Louise for the last three months and it has been very helpful and very excellent. She has provided me with more information than I thought I needed, and she has supported me in my process and continues to support me with all the information that I need, even beyond what I am paying for. She is very quick, very responsive, and very professional. The price felt very fair, and the payment arrangement was very workable for me.

How much do relocation companies cost in Amsterdam?

Real price ranges from the jobs our vetted relocation companies actually do. Prices updated September 2026

Document and signature certification

How much does document and signature certification cost in Amsterdam?

Nobody here publishes a rate for this, so treat whatever you are shown as a quote. What you pay splits in two: the legalisation or sworn translation itself, which our sources put at anything from tens to a few hundred euros per document depending on which country issued it, and the agent's fee for knowing which of your papers needs an apostille and which the gemeente will take as it is. Ask for those two to be quoted separately, because the first one you pay either way.

Legalising or translating one document
Tens to a few hundred euros, per document
Agent's fee to work out what is needed
Quoted per case, no published rate

Driver's license exchange

How much does a driver's license exchange cost in Amsterdam?

Our sources do not cover licence exchange, so there is no Amsterdam figure to give you here and anything quoted is a quote. What they do cover is bringing a car, which is a different errand: you register it with the RDW, have it inspected, take a Dutch plate and take out Dutch insurance, which is compulsory. If a relocation company quotes for the licence, ask which part is the government fee and which part is theirs, because those are two different numbers.

Agent's fee to handle the exchange
Quoted per case, no published rate
Bringing a car instead, via the RDW
Inspection and plates, priced by the RDW

Nationality and citizenship process

How much does the nationality and citizenship process cost in Amsterdam?

Naturalisation is years away from the day you land, and it is the IND and your municipality who decide it, not the company helping you file. None of our Amsterdam sources price this work, so anything you are quoted is a quote. When you do get there, ask for the government fee and the agent's fee as two separate lines, because only one of them is negotiable.

Agent's fee to prepare the application
Quoted per case, no published rate
The government's own fee
Set by the authorities, charged apart

Relocation planning and management

How much does relocation planning and management cost in Amsterdam?

This is the full package, and agents price it per case rather than off a menu, so the number to hold onto is your own budget rather than their fee. Our sources put a single professional moving from elsewhere in Europe at roughly €3,000 to €6,000 once permit fees, transport, deposit and the first weeks of setting up are counted, and a family shipping a container from another continent at €10,000 to €20,000. None of that is the agent's fee, it is the move itself. If you are coming for a Dutch employer, ask what your package already covers before you buy anything, and hold back ten to twenty percent for the small things that all land in the same fortnight.

Your whole move from Europe, one person
€3,000 to €6,000, agent's fee not in it
Family shipping a container from further
€10,000 to €20,000
Agent's management fee on top
Quoted per case, ask for a breakdown
Reserve to keep back for surprises
10% to 20% of your budget

Settling-in and orientation program

How much does a settling-in and orientation program cost in Amsterdam?

Here is the honest part: almost everything in a settling-in package is free to do yourself. Registering at the gemeente costs nothing and your BSN comes with it, DigiD costs nothing, and a bank account costs nothing to open. What you are buying is speed and the Dutch language, plus somebody who knows the appointment has to be in person within five days of arriving and that the gemeente can take up to four weeks to process it. If your Dutch is nowhere and your first week is already full, that is a fair thing to pay for, but ask for the fee as a number first.

Registering at the gemeente, BSN included
€0, you just need an appointment
DigiD
€0, applied for online once registered
Opening a bank account
€0 to open, once you have a BSN
Agent walking you through all of it
Quoted per case or bundled in a package

Social security registration

How much does social security registration cost in Amsterdam?

In the Netherlands this is the same errand as registering at the gemeente. You go in person to the town hall of the district you are living in, within five days of arriving if you are staying longer than four months, and you come out registered in the BRP with a BSN. It is free, and your employer handles the payroll side once you hand the number over. An agent can book the appointment, come with you and translate, but the registration itself never carries a price.

Registering in the BRP and getting a BSN
€0 at the gemeente
How long the gemeente takes
Up to four weeks to process
Agent booking it and coming with you
Quoted per case, often part of a package

Tax number registration

How much does tax number registration cost in Amsterdam?

The Netherlands has no NIE or NIF. Your BSN is your tax number, and it is issued when you register at the gemeente, so there is nothing separate to apply for and nothing to pay. Once you have it the Belastingdienst finds you on its own and writes to you. If a company quotes you for a Dutch tax number as a job of its own, that is a good moment to ask exactly what they would be doing.

Dutch tax number, which is your BSN
€0, issued with your registration
A separate tax number application
There is not one in the Netherlands

Visa and residency applications

How much do visa and residency applications cost in Amsterdam?

If you are an EU, EEA or Swiss citizen you need no permit at all, just the gemeente registration. Everyone else needs a residence permit and usually an MVV, and the IND charges its own fee, which our source puts at a few hundred euros per person and which changes every year, so check the current figure at the IND rather than on a blog. That government fee is not what a relocation company charges to prepare and file it, and none of them publish that part. If you are arriving as a highly skilled migrant your employer is the sponsor and normally files and pays, so ask them before you buy anything.

IND fee, set by the government
A few hundred euros per person, check IND
Agent's fee to prepare and file it
Quoted per case, no published rate
Highly skilled migrant via an employer
Usually filed and paid by your sponsor

Bank account opening

How much does bank account opening cost in Amsterdam?

Opening a Dutch bank account is free, and the big banks do the whole thing in English. What you need is your BSN, your passport and proof of your address, which is why this one always comes after the gemeente. So the real question is not the price of the account, it is whether you want somebody sitting next to you for an hour. Worth paying for in a week when everything else is happening at once, easy to skip when it is not.

Opening the account
€0, banks do not charge to open one
What you need to have first
BSN, passport and proof of address
Agent coming along with you
Quoted per case, usually inside a package

Pet relocation

How much does pet relocation cost in Amsterdam?

Bringing a pet is usually fine, but the rules come from the NVWA and they depend on where you are flying from, so check them before you book anything. Our Amsterdam sources do not price the paperwork or the flight, and pet transport is a specialist job rather than something a relocation agent does in house. Expect to be handed to a pet shipper, and ask what the agent adds for the introduction.

Agent's fee to arrange it
Quoted per case, no published rate
Pet shipper and vet paperwork
Billed apart, check NVWA rules first

Accounting support

How much does accounting support cost in Amsterdam?

None of our Amsterdam relocation sources price this, and most relocation companies do not keep your books themselves, they hand you to an accountant they work with. So expect two bills if you go through an agent and one if you find the accountant yourself. Ask whether the introduction is free before you let it turn into a line on the invoice.

Agent's fee for arranging it
Quoted per case, no published rate
The accountant's own fee
Billed separately by the accountant

Financial services support

How much does financial services support cost in Amsterdam?

This is usually an introduction rather than a service: the agent puts you in front of a mortgage adviser or a bank, and the adviser bills you. Nobody publishes what the introduction costs. The number worth carrying is on the buying side, where notary, transfer tax and agent together come to roughly 5 to 10 percent of the purchase price, and where a mortgage as a newcomer depends on your income and your residence status. Ask who pays the adviser before you sit down with them.

Agent's introduction fee
Quoted per case, no published rate
Buying costs, notary, tax and agent
5% to 10% of the purchase price
Mortgage adviser's own fee
Billed by the adviser, not the agent

Insurance support

How much does insurance support cost in Amsterdam?

Dutch health insurance is compulsory and you have four months from registering to arrange it, so this one is not optional. A basic policy runs about €150 a month per adult, children under 18 are covered free on a parent's policy, and dentist or physio needs a top-up. That €150 goes to the insurer and not to your relocation agent, and comparing policies is something you can do yourself in an evening. Car insurance is compulsory too if you bring a car over.

Basic Dutch health insurance
About €150 a month per adult
Children under 18
€0, covered on a parent's policy
Agent helping you choose
Quoted per case, usually inside a package

Moving and shipping support

How much does moving and shipping support cost in Amsterdam?

These figures come from Amsterdam removal firms rather than relocation agents, so read them as the cost of the van and the crew. Two movers and a van in Amsterdam run about €65 an hour, which works out at €130 to €325 for a studio up to a three room flat, while a family home elsewhere in the country is €900 to €2,800. Coming in from abroad, a move from Belgium starts around €1,700 and one from the United States is €6,400 to €8,600, and a full household container from another continent is €4,000 to €10,000. A relocation agent booking and supervising that for you charges on top, per case.

Two movers and a van in Amsterdam
€65 an hour, three movers €95
Studio to three room flat in Amsterdam
€130 to €325
Family home move within the Netherlands
€900 to €2,800
Moving in from Belgium, or from the US
€1,700 to €2,400, or €6,400 to €8,600
Full container from another continent
€4,000 to €10,000
Agent booking and supervising the move
Quoted per case, on top of the movers

Real estate support

How much does real estate support cost in Amsterdam?

Most people arriving in Amsterdam rent first, and for that the fee is a rental agent's, which is covered under the home search. If you are buying, the costs that are not the price of the house are notary, the 2 percent transfer tax and the agent, and together they come to roughly 5 to 10 percent of what you pay. Amsterdam is the most expensive municipality in the country at an average of around €7,187 per square metre, so those percentages are big numbers here. Get the buying agent's fee quoted as its own line before you start viewing.

Buying costs, notary, transfer tax, agent
5% to 10% of the purchase price
Transfer tax on a home
2% of the purchase price
Average Amsterdam house price
€7,187 per square metre
Renting instead, agent working for you
One month's rent plus 21% VAT

Tax advice support

How much does tax advice support cost in Amsterdam?

The thing worth asking about is the 30 percent ruling, which lets qualifying skilled arrivals take up to 30 percent of their gross salary tax free, and which your employer applies for with you. Beyond that, you become taxable here the moment you register, the Belastingdienst writes to you on its own, and you may be owed allowances like huurtoeslag or zorgtoeslag. None of our Amsterdam sources publish an adviser's hourly rate, so ask for one before the first meeting, especially if you have income in more than one country.

Adviser's fee
Quoted per case, no published rate
The 30 percent ruling, if you qualify
Up to 30% of gross salary, tax free
Filing through the agent's tax partner
Billed by the adviser, ask for the rate

Frequently Asked Questions

What people want to know before hiring relocation companies in Amsterdam.

What should I check before hiring relocation companies in Amsterdam?
Read recent reviews, be clear about exactly what you need, and agree the scope and a price in writing before any work starts. For anything regulated, check the credential yourself rather than taking it on trust.
Are prices in Amsterdam quoted with or without BTW?
Check, because it varies. A price quoted to a consumer should already include BTW, and most trades do show it that way, but plenty of price lists are still written excluding it. The rate is 21% on most work, though labour on a home more than two years old is taxed at 9%, and so are things like sports and fitness classes. Look for the word "inclusief" or "exclusief" next to the figure before you compare two quotes, and ask whether travel costs and parking are in there too.
How do I check a business in Amsterdam is properly registered?
Every legitimate Dutch business has a KvK number from the Chamber of Commerce, and you can look it up free in the public register. For gas, heating and electrical work there are extra schemes worth asking about, mainly SCIOS and InstallQ. A business that will not give you its KvK number is a reason to walk away.
What is the most important thing to know before booking?
Be clear about what you want and get the price and scope agreed up front, so there are no surprises. Reading other people's reviews is the quickest way to find someone who does the job well and turns up when they said they would.
What should I avoid when hiring relocation companies in Amsterdam?
Avoid paying the full amount up front (a deposit can be fair), anyone who will not give a clear quote, and unusually cheap prices that get padded with extras later.
How do I find relocation companies I can trust in Amsterdam?
Check the reviews and any credentials before you book. On Locallista the reviews are phone-verified and the ranking is based on real experience, not who paid the most.
