I had an excellent experience with Madrid Garden Design. They did really detailed designs, listened to the vision and the colours I wanted, and worked with our tricky garden with lots of shade. We also had a closed pipe span last year and they worked really hard to make sure the flowers grew and the colours all worked together, and the garden in the summer was wonderful to sit in. They are still supporting us and will come back in March or April to keep going and maintaining it.

I moved into a new house with a very sad back garden, so I hired Annabel to give me some designs. We did a questionnaire and talked through different options and how much maintenance I wanted, and she got the plans to me really quickly, incorporated the plants I already had, checked what was in the right area and soil, and sent planting plans. Communication was really prompt, the work was done very quickly, and there was great attention to detail about where my paving slabs should go and how much I would need. It was a very pleasant experience with no stress, the design is just really good, and it’s still my favourite part of my house, so I would recommend her.

I found them on Google, liked the examples and recommendations, and from the start Sarah and then Annabel were really friendly and really knowledgeable, taking time to understand what we wanted, asking questions that wouldn’t have occurred to us, and looking at where the sun was and which parts were shady. They helped with the enabling works - knocking a garage down, getting surveys - and then the full design with Annabel on Teams and Zoom was fine, with WhatsApp and email making the distance not matter at all. They handled procurement and tendering, liaised with the landscapers, gave advice about trees, and their recommendation of Rightscapes was brilliant, so we didn’t have to do a lot of liaison. The garden is now built with a summer house and areas we can use all year round, it looks wonderful even in January and has made a massive difference to our lives and well-being - we couldn’t be happier, and the price felt fair.

Frequently Asked Questions

What expats want to know before hiring gardeners in Madrid.

Are there English-speaking gardeners in Madrid?
Yes, and more do as the expat community grows. The hard part is knowing who is reliable before you book, so every one we list is reviewed by other expats who have actually used them.
What should I check before hiring gardeners in Madrid?
Read recent reviews, be clear about exactly what you need, and agree the scope and an estimate in writing before any work starts. For anything regulated, check they hold the right credentials for the job.
What is the most important thing to know before booking?
Be clear about what you want and get the price and scope agreed up front, so there are no surprises. Reading other expats' reviews is the quickest way to find someone who does the job well and communicates clearly.
What should I avoid when hiring gardeners in Madrid?
Avoid paying the full amount up front (a deposit can be fair), anyone who will not give a clear quote, and unusually cheap prices that get padded with extras later.
How do I explain what I need if my Spanish is limited?
A photo, a short video or a written list does most of the talking, and the professionals we list are used to international clients. Booking an English-speaking one takes the stress out of it entirely.
How do you say gardeners in Spanish?
In Spanish, gardeners are usually called jardineros. That is the word to search for or to ask a neighbour, though many professionals here are used to the English term too.
How do I find gardeners I can trust in Madrid?
Check the reviews and any credentials before you book. On Locallista the reviews are phone-verified and the ranking is based on real expat experience, not who paid the most.
