I’ve been training with Hugo for around 8 years, once or twice a week, sometimes in person and sometimes online, with a focus on strength and mobility for my golf. The sessions are super personalized, and whenever my back, shoulder, or arm acts up, he figures out where it might come from and gives the exact exercises to keep it fit or make it better.
He taught me to build the right strength in legs and arms, and to understand the starting point and the ending point of every swing. I feel fit and play better. Pricing feels fair and the hybrid format we learned during COVID still works great for me.

I found José on the internet when I was looking for a personal trainer, and it was the best thing that could have happened to me. I had obesity before, lost about 30 kilograms and got too thin, so I told José I needed to gain muscle, get disciplined and go to the gym four days a week. He personalized the plan for me, told me what to eat, and in one year I gained nine kilograms of muscle, unbelievable. He is a very good person, communication is great, and the price felt fair for the service.

I hired Hugo as a personal trainer. I'm a middle-aged manager who sits a lot, and meeting once a week for a 1 hour session at my place, or online if needed, has really improved my overall fitness. He’s very knowledgeable, spots where I’m not moving right, and gives me the right exercises plus ideas to do on my own. Hugo is reliable, flexible, and a nice person. I even added golf-specific work with him and saw direct improvements in my swing and body control, and the price felt fair.

Frequently Asked Questions
What expats want to know before hiring fitness trainers in Madrid.
Are there English-speaking fitness trainers in Madrid?
Yes, and more do as the expat community grows. The hard part is knowing who is reliable before you book, so every one we list is reviewed by other expats who have actually used them.
What should I check before hiring fitness trainers in Madrid?
Read recent reviews, be clear about exactly what you need, and agree the scope and an estimate in writing before any work starts. For anything regulated, check they hold the right credentials for the job.
What is the most important thing to know before booking?
Be clear about what you want and get the price and scope agreed up front, so there are no surprises. Reading other expats' reviews is the quickest way to find someone who does the job well and communicates clearly.
What should I avoid when hiring fitness trainers in Madrid?
Avoid paying the full amount up front (a deposit can be fair), anyone who will not give a clear quote, and unusually cheap prices that get padded with extras later.
How do I explain what I need if my Spanish is limited?
A photo, a short video or a written list does most of the talking, and the professionals we list are used to international clients. Booking an English-speaking one takes the stress out of it entirely.
How do you say fitness trainers in Spanish?
In Spanish, fitness trainers are usually called entrenadores personales. That is the word to search for or to ask a neighbour, though many professionals here are used to the English term too.
How do I find fitness trainers I can trust in Madrid?
Check the reviews and any credentials before you book. On Locallista the reviews are phone-verified and the ranking is based on real expat experience, not who paid the most.

Dos and Don’ts as an expat
Essential dos and don’ts for finding the perfect fitness trainer to elevate your health journey
Do’s
Do Choose a Trainer Who Personalizes Workouts
Look for trainers who customize workout plans to fit your individual needs and goals. Personalization, considering your health concerns and fitness levels, ensures you make progress and stay motivated throughout your fitness journey.
Do Seek Trainers with Strong Communication Skills
Select trainers who communicate clearly and effectively, explaining exercises and techniques in an easily understandable manner. Good communication enhances your understanding and execution of exercises, fostering a better training experience.
Do Consider Their Nutritional Knowledge
Opt for trainers who can provide nutrition advice and support alongside workout routines. A comprehensive approach that includes dietary advice can greatly enhance your fitness results and overall well-being.
Do Look for Trainers with a Supportive Attitude
Choose trainers who display empathy and support, making you feel valued and understood. A positive and encouraging atmosphere can significantly impact your motivation and commitment to achieving fitness goals.
Do Verify Their Flexibility in Training Options
Check if trainers offer flexible training options, such as in-person, online, or home workouts. Flexibility in training venues and schedules can make it easier for you to stick to your fitness regimen even with a busy lifestyle.
Dont’s
Don't Ignore Availability and Flexibility of Scheduling
Make sure your trainer has flexible scheduling options that work with your lifestyle. Many reviews highlight that rigid schedules can lead to missed sessions or lack of consistency in training, which ultimately affects your progress.
Don't Underestimate the Importance of Personalization
Avoid trainers who provide generic workout programs. Reviews emphasize that a tailored approach is crucial for meeting individual needs and goals, especially for those with specific health concerns or fitness levels.
Don't Overlook Communication Skills
Ensure your trainer communicates effectively, clearly explaining exercises and modifications. Poor communication can lead to misunderstandings and hinder your ability to perform exercises correctly, impacting your safety and progress.
Don't Choose a Trainer Without Checking Punctuality
Punctuality is often essential to maintaining a consistent workout routine. Many reviews mention that late arrivals can disrupt training schedules and become frustrating, undermining your overall commitment to fitness goals.
