Madrid, Sep 2026
I’ve been having therapy sessions with Virginia since around November or December, and I’m really happy. I’m still going and I plan to go for a bit more. Up until now it’s been really good, she makes me feel comfortable during the sessions, and she’s really helped me.

Vaida is professional, well organised, and very attentive to all the details. All our meetings were smooth, and she is responsive, reliable, and easy to reach. I can compare with other services we’ve been working with for a while, and I think it’s a really good service and of high quality. She is also flexible when I need to change the time, and overall, I’m very satisfied with her service.

I moved abroad and was finding it hard to readjust - I was getting quite anxious and kind of lost my identity, so I got a referral to speak to Brent at Pathfinder Therapy. The plan was very structured, and he spent a lot of time getting to know me and my background, which helped me become very steady and feel relaxed. Previously I felt under the microscope with therapists who wanted to stick labels on everything, but with Brent it felt very natural and I felt secure and safe. He was there on time, maintained boundaries really well, and wrote back when he promised - price felt more than fair.

Frequently Asked Questions
What expats want to know before hiring psychologists in Madrid.
Are there English-speaking psychologists in Madrid?
Yes, and more do as the expat community grows. The hard part is knowing who is reliable before you book, so every one we list is reviewed by other expats who have actually used them.
What should I check before hiring psychologists in Madrid?
Read recent reviews, be clear about exactly what you need, and agree the scope and an estimate in writing before any work starts. For anything regulated, check they hold the right credentials for the job.
What is the most important thing to know before booking?
Be clear about what you want and get the price and scope agreed up front, so there are no surprises. Reading other expats' reviews is the quickest way to find someone who does the job well and communicates clearly.
What should I avoid when hiring psychologists in Madrid?
Avoid paying the full amount up front (a deposit can be fair), anyone who will not give a clear quote, and unusually cheap prices that get padded with extras later.
How do I explain what I need if my Spanish is limited?
A photo, a short video or a written list does most of the talking, and the professionals we list are used to international clients. Booking an English-speaking one takes the stress out of it entirely.
How do you say psychologists in Spanish?
In Spanish, psychologists are usually called psicologos. That is the word to search for or to ask a neighbour, though many professionals here are used to the English term too.
How do I find psychologists I can trust in Madrid?
Check the reviews and any credentials before you book. On Locallista the reviews are phone-verified and the ranking is based on real expat experience, not who paid the most.

Dos and Don’ts as an expat
Smart choices: dos and don’ts for finding the right psychologist
Do’s
Do Prioritize Personalized Care
Seek psychologists who emphasize a personalized treatment approach. Clients appreciate professionals who tailor therapy sessions to their specific needs, ensuring that each session addresses individual concerns, fostering a sense of comfort and relevance throughout the therapeutic process.
Do Look for Flexible Scheduling Options
Choosing a psychologist who offers flexible scheduling can significantly enhance your experience. Many clients highlight the importance of accommodating appointments that fit their busy lives while still ensuring continuity in therapy, which contributes to effective progress.
Do Seek Out Support Beyond Sessions
Find psychologists who provide additional resources and support outside of scheduled sessions. Clients value practitioners who offer tools and materials to apply in daily life, reflecting a commitment to their ongoing growth and understanding beyond the counseling room.
Do Consider Comfort and Privacy in the Environment
Select a psychologist whose office environment feels safe and inviting. Feedback indicates that a comfortable and private setting is crucial for clients to open up, enhancing the overall effectiveness of therapeutic conversations and experiences.
Dont’s
Don't Ignore Personalization in Therapy
Selecting a psychologist who adopts a one-size-fits-all approach to treatment can hinder your progress. Personalized therapy methods, tailored to your unique needs and circumstances, are essential for effective healing and growth.
Don't Overlook Accessibility and Availability
If a psychologist has limited availability or inflexible scheduling, it may affect your ability to receive timely care and support. Prioritize professionals who offer flexible hours and are accessible for questions or concerns between sessions.
Don't Settle for a Generic Environment
Choosing a psychologist with an uncomfortable or impersonal setting may inhibit your willingness to engage fully in therapy. Ensure that the therapist's office provides privacy and comfort, vital for open and vulnerable discussions.
Don't Rely on Recommendations Alone Without Research
While personal recommendations can be helpful, it's crucial to conduct your own research on a psychologist's qualifications and approaches. Ensure that their methodologies align with your expectations and that they have a proven track record of success.
