Ludovica

Lisbon, Aug 2026

A salon I recommend to all expats. I came in with dull hair, and Leonardo managed to make my hair shine. The products he used are also excellent, thank you!

Andrea

Cascais, Mar 2026

I go here to have my hair done and I've been with Barbara for over 20 years. I started at a different salon where she worked, and then, when she moved uptown Cascais, I moved with her. She’s a specialist for color so knows exactly what I want, and it’s always a positive experience They answer the phone quickly, the salon is bright and airy and you get offered a coffee. She's always on time, she's very flexible, and the price feels very reasonable, so I’ve recommended lots of people to go there.

Olga

Lisbon, Feb 2025

I recently visited La La Hairs for hair extensions, and I was very pleased with the experience. The salon is beautiful and clean, and the staff were polite and welcoming. Olga did an excellent job using high-quality materials, and I was completely satisfied with the final result, which met my expectations perfectly. The price matched the quality of service I received. I highly recommend this place.

Do you tip hairdressers in Lisbon?
Tipping is not obligatory in Portugal, but it is appreciated. Rounding up or leaving around 5 to 10 percent for a good service is common, and entirely up to you.
Are there English-speaking hairdressers in Lisbon?
Yes, many salons have English-speaking stylists, which really helps when you are explaining exactly what you want. We list ones reviewed by other expats who have sat in the chair.
Can I find a salon for curly or specific hair types?
Yes. Not every salon is set up for every texture, so look for specialists, for example salons experienced with curly or afro hair, and check the reviews. It is one of the most-asked questions in expat groups here.
What should I check before booking?
Bring photos of the look you want (the universal language of a good haircut), and read reviews to see whether other expats felt understood. For colour, ask whether a consultation or strand test is included.
How do you say hairdresser in Portuguese?
A hairdresser is a cabeleireiro in Portuguese (the salon is also a cabeleireiro). That is the word to search for, though many stylists here speak English.
How do I find a hairdresser I can trust in Lisbon?
Check reviews, especially for your hair type or the colour work you want. On Locallista the reviews are phone-verified, so they reflect real experiences.

Dos and Don’ts as an expat

Smart choices: dos and don’ts for finding the perfect hairdresser

Do’s
Do Look for Clean and Welcoming Salons
Choose hairdressers that maintain a tidy and inviting environment. A clean salon not only enhances comfort but also reflects the professionalism of the stylist. Many reviewers highlight how cleanliness contributes positively to their experience.
Do Select Stylists with Strong Communication Skills
Opt for hairdressers who prioritize clear communication and consultation before starting any service. Reviews indicate that professionals who listen carefully to client needs and provide tailored advice result in better, more satisfying outcomes.
Do Consider Scheduling Flexibility
Look for hairdressers who are accommodating with scheduling and respond promptly to booking inquiries. Many clients appreciate stylists that can easily fit appointments into their busy lives, enhancing overall satisfaction.
Do Seek Stylists who Provide Long-term Hair Care Tips
Choose hairdressers who share knowledgeable advice about maintaining your style and hair health beyond the salon. Reviewers value professionals who take the time to educate clients on aftercare, ensuring lasting results and healthy hair.
Dont’s
Don't Assume Every Hairdresser Will Optimize Your Time
Some hairdressers tend to take longer than expected for appointments, which can lead to frustration if you're on a tight schedule. Always ask about the estimated duration during booking to avoid unexpected delays.
Don't Neglect to Communicate Your Preferences Clearly
Failing to express your specific style or maintenance preferences can result in a haircut or color that doesn’t align with your expectations. Ensure you communicate your needs during the consultation before the service begins.
Don't Overlook the Importance of Cleanliness
Choosing a hairdresser or salon that neglects hygiene can lead to unsatisfactory experiences. Always check reviews for mentions of cleanliness, as a well-maintained salon reflects a professional approach to client care.
Don't Ignore the Value of Recommendations and Tips
Not every hairdresser will offer advice on hair care or styling post-appointment. Missing out on such recommendations can limit your ability to maintain your new look. Choose a stylist who provides tailored tips for ongoing hair health.
