Kseniia’s team did an in-depth clean of my new three-bedroom apartment before I moved in, and they were very, very thorough. They also cleaned my one-bedroom apartment really thoroughly, moved the furniture, made sure there was no cat fur or smell left anywhere, and did a great job on the kitchen and the fridge as well. They worked really hard, were absolutely lovely people, and from everything I saw, they did everything I expected.

I used Olga and her company for a while in Lisbon, and I am pleased with their service. They cleaned well, they communicate well, and they have nice cleaners who understand what is important for me. If anything is wrong, they always fix it, and it's easy to get in touch. I had a good experience with them.

I used Speak & Span for an end-of-lease apartment clean in December to give it back to the owner. The contact was quite easy with a couple of emails to confirm, they first asked me to change the time but then kept my initial slot, and on the day the cleaner arrived with a little delay but stayed longer, and the quality was really impeccable, even superior to my expectations. The owner was very impressed and I got my deposit back right away. The hourly rate felt a bit higher since it’s an agency, and their recommended time for the job was more than double what was actually needed, which wasn’t reasonable, but overall the service on the day was excellent.

Frequently Asked Questions
What expats want to know before hiring cleaning agencies in Lisbon.
How much does a cleaner cost in Lisbon?
Regular domestic cleaning is usually €9.50 to €15 an hour, with most cleaners setting a minimum of around three hours per visit. A one-off deep clean costs more per hour because it is harder work.
Are there English-speaking cleaning services in Lisbon?
Yes, several agencies and independent cleaners offer English support and online booking. We list ones reviewed by other expats so you know they are reliable.
What is the difference between regular, deep and move-out cleaning?
Regular cleaning is the routine tidy and surfaces, a deep clean reaches behind appliances, scale and grime, and a move-out (or post-build) clean is the heavy, detailed one. Each is priced differently, so say which you need.
What should I check before booking a cleaner?
Confirm the hourly rate and any minimum, whether products and equipment are included, and read recent reviews. For regular help, a fixed weekly or fortnightly slot is usually cheaper than one-offs.
What should I avoid?
Avoid paying for a full package before any work, and be clear about the scope, since cheap one-off rates sometimes assume a quick surface clean rather than the deep clean you expected.
How do you say cleaner in Portuguese?
A cleaner is often an empregada de limpeza, and a cleaning service is a serviço de limpeza or empresa de limpezas. Those are the terms to search for, though many services here work in English.
How do I find a cleaner I can trust in Lisbon?
Check recent reviews before you book, especially for someone coming into your home. On Locallista the reviews are phone-verified, so they reflect real experiences.

Dos and Don’ts as an expat
Smart choices: dos and don’ts when hiring a cleaning agency
Do’s
Do Prioritize Thoroughness in Cleaning Services
Select providers noted for their attention to detail and commitment to an exemplary standard of cleaning. Reviews highlight teams that consistently exceed expectations by thoroughly addressing all areas, ensuring no corners are left untouched and maintaining high cleanliness standards.
Do Confirm Responsiveness and Communication
Opt for cleaning services that demonstrate excellent responsiveness and proactive communication. Many customers emphasize the importance of a service provider that keeps clients informed about schedules, potential delays, and any special requirements to ensure a smooth experience.
Do Seek Out Teams That Use Quality Supplies
Choose cleaning agencies that provide their own high-quality cleaning supplies and equipment. Clients often appreciate the convenience and efficiency of having a service that comes fully equipped, allowing for a thorough and professional clean without any hassle.
Do Check for Flexible Scheduling Options
When selecting a cleaning service, confirm that the agency offers flexible scheduling to accommodate your needs. Clients value providers who can adjust their availability for urgent requests or changing regular schedules, making the service more accommodating and user-friendly.
Do Look for Trustworthy and Reliable Teams
Prioritize cleaning agencies with a reputation for reliability and trustworthiness. Reviews indicate that customers feel comfortable leaving their keys with teams they can depend on, which adds an extra layer of peace of mind regarding your home’s security and the integrity of the service.
Dont’s
Don't Overlook Communication Skills
Effective communication is essential when hiring a cleaning service. Many reviewers highlighted issues related to language barriers and poor communication, which led to misunderstandings and dissatisfaction. Ensure your service provider can communicate clearly and understands your specific needs.
Don't Ignore Initial Impressions
Your first experience with a cleaning service can set the tone for future interactions. If the service appears rushed or disorganized during the initial cleaning, it may indicate a lack of professionalism that could persist in future appointments. Be attentive to these signs before committing.
Don't Assume Flexibility in Scheduling
While flexibility in scheduling is beneficial, not all cleaning services guarantee this. Customers noted instances where cleaners arrived at unsuitable times or had to reschedule without adequate notice. Clarify scheduling policies and ensure they align with your needs before hiring.
Don't Neglect to Discuss Pricing Structures
Unexpected fees and unclear pricing can lead to frustration. Reviewers often mentioned being surprised by costs and extra charges. Prior to hiring, ask for a detailed breakdown of fees and ensure you fully understand the pricing structure to avoid confusion later.
