I’ve been seeing her on and off for about a year, starting with weekly sessions for 3 months, took a break, then another 3 months, and recently a couple more after the summer while I’m on a big trip. We’ve done life coaching and career stuff, plus compassionate inquiry and working with trauma, and when I’ve had big reactions to difficult things I could call her and we worked through it. The space feels really comfortable and accessible, and she’s easy to book and super available straight away when something urgent comes up. Price feels fair for what I’m getting, and the whole experience has been super important for my life and personal growth.

I met my coach on a yoga retreat during my teacher training in Portugal and later did a 3 month coaching program with 12 sessions. We focused on my professional life as a new lead in an IT department mentoring employees, working through real daily situations I could apply immediately, and we also touched other areas of my life. She listens without judging, gives clear feedback and new perspectives, and even when it was tough it had a positive impact and helped me manage tasks and my mindset for similar issues in the future. I still book ad hoc one-on-one sessions when I need to discuss something, the materials and structure were helpful, and while the price can feel a bit expensive the value felt solid.

I hired Helena for personal life coaching to get a grip on my life in different aspects. I felt very safe and very seen, she’s very honest in a good way - no going behind the porch - just direct and tells you how things are. She was always responsive and on time, professional but also human and friendly, and the price felt fair. I started a bit skeptical and was surprised it was so good, it opened up my mind and made me realize things I didn’t even know were there.

Dos and Don’ts as an expat
Expert tips: dos and don’ts for selecting the right occupational therapist
Do’s
Do Seek Qualified Credentials
When considering an occupational therapist, prioritize those with recognized qualifications and certifications. This ensures you are receiving care from a professional who meets the industry standards and is equipped with the latest techniques and knowledge to support your rehabilitation.
Do Inquire About Customized Treatment Plans
Look for therapists that offer personalized treatment plans tailored to your specific needs and goals. A good occupational therapist will assess your unique situation and create a comprehensive program to help you regain independence and improve functionality.
Do Ask for Testimonials and Success Stories
Request feedback from previous clients or look for reviews that highlight successful outcomes. Hearing about others' positive experiences can provide insight into the therapist's effectiveness and help build your confidence in their ability to assist you.
Do Evaluate Communication Style
Choose an occupational therapist who communicates clearly and effectively. Establishing good rapport with your therapist is essential for a successful therapeutic alliance, making it easier to discuss your concerns and progress throughout your treatment.
Dont’s
Don't Choose a Provider Without Verified Credentials
Selecting an occupational therapist without confirmed credentials may lead to subpar services or ineffective treatment plans. Always verify that the therapist is licensed and holds relevant qualifications to ensure the safety and efficacy of therapy.
Don't Overlook Reviews and Testimonials
Neglecting to read reviews or ask for testimonials could result in choosing a provider with a track record of unsatisfactory care or unprofessional conduct. Take the time to research experiences of previous clients to avoid potential disappointment.
Don't Ignore Communication Style and Approach
Failing to assess the therapist's communication style may lead to misunderstandings or a lack of connection during therapy. Ensure the provider’s approach aligns with your needs and expectations to facilitate a productive therapeutic relationship.
Don't Assume All Therapists Are Equally Equipped for Your Condition
Not all occupational therapists specialize in the same areas. Relying on a generalist instead of one with expertise in your specific condition may hinder progress. Confirm that the therapist has relevant experience and success in treating your particular needs.
