Matt fixed the tiles on our roof where we had a leak, and while he was up there he identified more things happening and patched everything he saw. Communication was super good - he got back to me quickly, came when he said he would, and kept me updated about the rain since the timing was weather-dependent. We live in a four-story walk-up and he still handled it, and we’re having him back to fix the water damage inside, either replace the ceiling or sand and paint once it dries. The price felt very fair, and honestly he was kind of a godsend when no one else would come during the crazy storms.

I recently had my bathroom renovated by Tomas from NGTEC - House Renovation, and overall, I'm quite pleased with the outcome. Communication was a breeze; they were always helpful and attentive to my needs. The quality of construction is impressive, with top-notch materials used throughout, from the toilet and sink to the flooring. Despite the excellent service quality, there was a bit of a snag with timing as they finished a week later than planned. Nevertheless, throughout the process, Tomas and his team remained kind and respectful. I would recommend their services but suggest factoring in some extra time for completion just in case.

Matt helped with some decoration repairs around my interior air conditioning vents in my apartment in Lisbon, and he did a good job. He was exceptionally polite and respectful throughout the process. However, I found the service to be overpriced.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I choose a reliable drywall contractor in Lisbon?
Check recent reviews, before-and-after photos, and ask for two local references. Request a written scope with materials, finish level, timeline, and cleanup responsibilities. A brief site visit and a fixed price quotation reduce surprises and help you compare like-for-like between Lisbon drywall specialists.
How much does drywall installation cost in Lisbon?
Market rates in Lisbon often range from €25, €45 per m² for standard partitions or ceilings, rising to €45, €80 per m² for acoustic or fire‑rated systems. Small repairs may be quoted as a half‑day rate or per room. Prices are set by individual contractors and you pay them directly.
How long does a typical drywall project take?
A small patch repair typically takes a few hours plus drying and sanding. A single room installation and finishing is usually 1, 2 days, while a whole flat can take 3, 7 days depending on design, access, and painting. Complex acoustic or fire‑rated builds may add extra time.
Do I need a permit for drywall work in Lisbon apartments?
Most internal, non‑structural drywall (pladur) works in Lisbon do not require a building permit. However, changes to the layout, fire safety partitions, listed buildings, or works affecting common areas may need approval. Always confirm with your condominium administration and the Câmara Municipal de Lisboa before starting.
Can drywall provide good soundproofing or fire resistance?
Yes. Acoustic performance relies on double layers of plasterboard, resilient channels, mineral wool, and sealing all gaps; doors and floors also matter. For fire resistance, use certified fire‑rated boards, proper fixings, and intumescent sealant to meet specification. Ask for lab-tested systems from recognised brands.
Is drywall suitable for bathrooms and kitchens in Lisbon’s climate?
Drywall can work well in Lisbon bathrooms and kitchens when moisture‑resistant boards, proper vapour control, and mould‑resistant joint compounds are used. Ensure good ventilation and silicone sealing at junctions. Consider cement boards in shower enclosures, with tiles applied over appropriate waterproofing membranes.
What should be included in a drywall quotation in Lisbon?
A clear quote in Lisbon should detail drawings or measurements, board type and thickness, insulation, finish level (e.g., skim or Level 5), primers/paint, metal framing, access equipment, protection, and waste removal. Include timeline, working hours, warranty, VAT, and payment schedule. This avoids extras later.
How do drywall contractors handle cleanliness and waste?
Professional drywall teams should protect floors and furniture, control dust with extraction and sealing, and leave the site tidy. Clarify whether debris removal and tip fees are included, especially in apartment buildings with limited lifts and access. Ask how they minimise noise and disruption for neighbours.
What’s the difference between drywall and traditional plaster in Portugal?
In Portugal, drywall (often called Pladur) uses plasterboard sheets on metal studs, offering speed, predictable costs, and easy integration of insulation and services. Traditional solid plaster is slower, heavier, and often pricier but can suit heritage details. Many Lisbon renovations combine both to balance finish and budget.
Will I find English-speaking drywall contractors in Lisbon?
Yes, many drywall contractors in Lisbon speak English and are used to working with international clients. You can request site meetings and quotations in English, and ask for material specifications and guarantees to be translated. Clear communication reduces errors and keeps your project on time and on budget.

Dos and Don’ts as an expat

Essential dos and don’ts for hiring drywall contractors for your project

Do’s
Do Verify Prompt Service Completion
Select drywall contractors who have a track record of completing jobs in a timely manner. Quick turnaround, like finishing in less time than expected, can indicate efficient work practices and good project management skills.
Do Assess Cleanliness and Tidiness
Choose contractors who leave the work area clean and organized post-project. A contractor who prioritizes maintaining a tidy workspace shows respect for your home and a commitment to professionalism.
Do Seek Clear Communication
Find contractors who take the time to explain the repair process and details of their work before starting. Clear communication helps set expectations and builds trust, ensuring you're fully informed about the services being provided.
Do Investigate Durability of Repairs
Ensure the contractors you consider have a reputation for providing durable, long-lasting repairs. Confirm that previous customers have had success with repairs holding up over time to avoid future issues.
Dont’s
Don't Hire Without Checking References
Choosing a drywall contractor without verifying their references can lead to unsatisfactory results. Previous customer experiences can provide insights into the contractor's reliability, craftsmanship, and ability to deliver on promised timelines.
Don't Assume All Contractors Are Equal
Not all drywall contractors have the same level of expertise or experience. Failing to compare the qualifications and past projects of multiple contractors may result in hiring someone who cannot adequately meet your project needs.
Don't Neglect to Confirm Completion Timelines
It's crucial to establish clear timelines for project completion before hiring a drywall contractor. Neglecting to do so could lead to frustration if the project takes longer than expected, impacting your plans and schedules.
Don't Overlook the Importance of Cleanliness
Be wary of drywall contractors who do not prioritize cleanliness in their work. A poor cleanup can lead to additional work for you after the project is done, affecting the overall satisfaction with the service received.
