Ouzi

Braga, Nov 2025

I needed health insurance after moving here and a friend passed me his number. We took the health insurance and have used it a lot, and he kept accompanying us with claims and questions, being very available, proactive and attentive to details; he even sat with me to do the processes and once shared his internet so things got done properly. He explained my rights and options clearly and reminded me that I could get a refund for prescriptions, not just rubber stamping things. Overall the service has been adequate and convenient and felt like really good value.

I worked with Nuno during our home purchase in 2023–2024, specifically for advice on insurance options. He explained the different coverages clearly and shared detailed information to help us understand what would suit our situation best. We communicated by phone and WhatsApp, and he was generally very responsive, even if we occasionally had to follow up. Overall, the support we received on the insurance side was very helpful and met our expectations.

Sintra, Jun 2026

Frederico helped me with quotes for my mortgage and insurance, and that saved me a lot of time because I did not have to do that with each individual bank. He negotiated with them as well, which was helpful, and he was a good person to ask questions when I was not really aware of what I should be looking at. There was a bit of misinformation with my specific bank because they had slightly different rules and timings, so I think the recommendations could have been more specific to what my bank required. Overall, I would recommend him and would use him again.

Frequently Asked Questions

What expats want to know before hiring insurance agents in Lisbon.

Are there English-speaking insurance agents in Lisbon?
Yes, and more do as the expat community grows. The hard part is knowing who is reliable before you book, so every one we list is reviewed by other expats who have actually used them.
What should I check before hiring insurance agents in Lisbon?
Read recent reviews, be clear about exactly what you need, and agree the scope and an estimate in writing before any work starts. For anything regulated, check they hold the right credentials for the job.
What is the most important thing to know before booking?
Be clear about what you want and get the price and scope agreed up front, so there are no surprises. Reading other expats' reviews is the quickest way to find someone who does the job well and communicates clearly.
What should I avoid when hiring insurance agents in Lisbon?
Avoid paying the full amount up front (a deposit can be fair), anyone who will not give a clear quote, and unusually cheap prices that get padded with extras later.
How do I explain what I need if my Portuguese is limited?
A photo, a short video or a written list does most of the talking, and the professionals we list are used to international clients. Booking an English-speaking one takes the stress out of it entirely.
How do you say insurance agents in Portuguese?
In Portuguese, insurance agents are usually called agentes de seguros. That is the word to search for or to ask a neighbour, though many professionals here are used to the English term too.
How do I find insurance agents I can trust in Lisbon?
Check the reviews and any credentials before you book. On Locallista the reviews are phone-verified and the ranking is based on real expat experience, not who paid the most.

With careful research and consideration, you can build a trusting relationship that supports you now and in the future.

Dos and Don’ts as an expat

Smart strategies: dos and don’ts for selecting the right insurance agent

Do’s
Do Research Their Reputation
Check the reputation of insurance agents by reviewing customer testimonials and ratings. Look for agents who consistently receive positive feedback on their trustworthiness and reliability, as this can provide valuable insight into the quality of service you can expect.
Do Inquire About Their Coverage Options
Ask potential insurance agents about the range of coverage options they provide. An adept agent should offer a variety of plans tailored to your specific needs, ensuring you receive the protection that best fits your situation and lifestyle.
Do Evaluate Their Communication Skills
Choose an insurance agent who communicates clearly and promptly. Effective communication is crucial for understanding policy details and making informed decisions. Ensure the agent is responsive to your inquiries and can explain complex terms in an easily digestible manner.
Dont’s
Don't Choose an Agent Without Checking Reviews
Failing to read reviews can lead to hiring an insurance agent with a poor reputation. Look for patterns in feedback regarding responsiveness, customer service quality, and claim handling to avoid agents who consistently disappoint clients.
Don't Ignore Communication Transparency
Avoid agents who do not clearly explain policy details, coverage limits, and exclusions. Lack of transparency can lead to misunderstandings and inadequate coverage when you need it most. Ensure your agent is open and communicative throughout the process.
Don't Rely Solely on Personal Recommendations
While personal referrals can be helpful, don't make your decision solely based on them. Each individual's needs are different, and an agent who worked well for one person may not meet your unique requirements or preferences. Conduct independent research.
Don't Overlook the Agent's Experience with Claims
Choosing an agent without a strong track record in handling claims can be risky. Agents who lack experience may not navigate the claims process effectively, potentially resulting in delays or denied claims. Ensure your agent is well-versed in claims support.
