Maria came to sing at my wedding in Lisbon and we were super satisfied. We talked with her on WhatsApp, she is always available and a very good person, and I asked for a specific song and she worked on this song to sing at my wedding. She was the first singer during the wedding, she was on time for sure, and she speaks Portuguese and a little English, and even with only French guests she spoke to a lot of people as well. The price is quite good and she accepted the payment like swift, so I recommend and would use her again.

Domingos

I have a company that sells wines and I organize wine tasting and networking events, and I invited Maria to do concerts at some of my events. It has been very productive - whenever I organize an event my clients ask for her presence, they like her voice and she sings very well. She arrives earlier than everyone, has easy communication, her message is deep and she really touches people's souls. The price felt fair, and she is very professional, she dedicates herself with body and soul.

Nuno

I hired Maria for Fado musical events in different settings: two or three times for wedding events, with music tailored to the celebration, as well as for corporate events. My experience with her has always been marked by a high level of professionalism - she is very responsible, highly available, and always leaves a great impression. I am a musician, not a singer, and when people ask me to recommend a Fado singer with musicians, I recommend Maria. I consistently receive positive feedback, and people often ask me to put them in touch with her for their own events. She works throughout Portugal, from north to south.

Frequently Asked Questions

What expats want to know before hiring performers in Lisbon.

What is the most important thing to know before booking?

What should I avoid when hiring performers in Lisbon?
Avoid paying the full amount up front (a deposit can be fair), anyone who will not give a clear quote, and unusually cheap prices that get padded with extras later.

A photo, a short video or a written list does most of the talking, and the professionals we list are used to international clients. Booking an English-speaking one takes the stress out of it entirely.

In Portuguese, performers are usually called artistas e performers. That is the word to search for or to ask a neighbour, though many professionals here are used to the English term too.

Dos and Don’ts as an expat

Essential dos and don'ts for selecting the perfect performer for your event

Do’s
Do Check for Performance Experience
When selecting a performer, prioritize those with significant experience in their field. Look for performers who have a proven track record with positive customer feedback, as this indicates they are reliable and skilled in delivering an engaging performance.
Do Review Previous Performances
Investigate recordings or testimonials from prior performances to gauge the performer’s style and suitability for your event. This will help you assess their ability to entertain and connect with the audience, ensuring a memorable experience.
Do Inquire About Customization Options
Select performers who offer customization options for their shows. Tailoring performances to suit the theme or preferences of your event can significantly enhance the overall experience for your guests.
Do Look for Strong Communication Skills
Choose a performer who demonstrates excellent communication skills from the initial inquiry. Clear and timely responses indicate professionalism and can ease the planning process, ensuring a smoother execution of your event.
Dont’s
Don't Hire Performers Without Reviewing Their Past Work
Many customers reported dissatisfaction due to poor performances from providers who did not showcase their prior work. Always review samples and past performances to ensure the performer aligns with your expectations and standards. Skipping this step can lead to disappointment at your event.
Don't Ignore Customer Feedback
Ignoring reviews and customer feedback can lead to poor hiring decisions. Performers with consistent negative reviews regarding professionalism, reliability, or quality should be avoided. Trust the experiences of others to help guide your choice and steer clear of potential pitfalls.
Don't Assume a One-Size-Fits-All Approach
Choosing performers based solely on popularity or general appeal can backfire. Make sure their style and skills fit your event's specific needs and audience. A mismatch could diminish the overall experience, so assess compatibility carefully before making a commitment.
Don't Overlook Communication Skills
Performers without strong communication skills can lead to misunderstandings and unmet expectations. Ensure that the performer is responsive and accessible during the booking process, as poor communication can indicate potential challenges during the performance itself.
