I first hired Carlos for small jobs like fixing a broken blind and some light switches, and then I asked him about a hot water problem we had for years after 15 or 20 plumbers could not sort it out. He was very clever, ran some quick and very clear tests, found the blockage, and fixed it by putting in a bypass pipe, and he also painted the kitchen and installed a ceiling light. He gets on with the job, has everything with him, and there is no interruption, he is quiet, clean, and not problematic. I have not found a handyman as clever as Carlos, he was outstanding and I am so happy with the work.

I’m pretty happy with Carlos and his work. He came and fixed all the stuff that I listed, even did an extra job, and he handled a complex problem with wrong deliveries and ordering different parts from different vendors on his own. He always brought what he needed, kept me updated in English on WhatsApp, and told me clearly what needed two weeks and what needed a few days. It was a bit on the pricey side for me, but I can strongly recommend him, and I will be using his services again.

I’ve known Carlos for a few years, and the first job he did for me was on a fire system where a few hoses were involved, the faucet was broken, and it needed to be replaced. It was a bit of a complicated job because it involved cutting the fire column and it was next to the meter boxes, and he did a good job, I was satisfied and the job was well done. Since then I’ve called him for other jobs, mostly in sewage and also construction, because sewage always involves reconstruction of places and columns and everything else. The last job he did for me was a break in the water supply in the area of the meter boxes, and it went well.

Dos and Don’ts as an expat
The ultimate guide: dos and don’ts for hiring reliable roofers
Do’s
Do Research Their Experience and Reviews
Before hiring a roofer, take the time to research their experience and check customer reviews. Look for providers with a strong track record of completed projects and positive feedback to ensure they have the necessary skills and reliability.
Do Ask for Detailed Written Estimates
Request detailed written estimates from potential roofers outlining the scope of work, materials to be used, and total costs. This helps prevent unexpected charges and allows you to compare offers more effectively.
Do Check for Proper Licensing and Insurance
Ensure that any roofer you consider hiring holds the necessary licenses and insurance. This protects you from liability and ensures that the contractor adheres to local building codes and industry standards.
Do Inquire About Warranty and Aftercare
Ask potential roofers about their warranties and aftercare services. A reliable provider should offer warranties on both materials and workmanship, signaling confidence in their quality of service and commitment to customer satisfaction.
Dont’s
Don't Hire Roofers Without Comprehensive References
Choosing a roofing contractor without checking their references can lead to unsatisfactory work and unexpected costs. Always ask for previous client testimonials and examples of completed projects to ensure the contractor has a proven track record of quality workmanship.
Don't Neglect Written Estimates and Contracts
Avoid entering into agreements without a detailed, written estimate that outlines the scope of work, materials, and timeline. Verbal agreements can lead to misunderstandings and disputes about costs and responsibilities, leaving you financially vulnerable.
Don't Ignore Your Gut Feeling About a Contractor
If something feels off during your interactions with a contractor, trust your instincts. A lack of professionalism, poor communication, or evasiveness regarding questions could indicate future issues with reliability and quality of work.
Don't Skimp on Insurance Verification
Failing to verify that a roofing contractor has proper insurance can expose you to liability if accidents occur on your property. Always request proof of insurance coverage to protect yourself and ensure the contractor is compliant with safety standards.
