Lisbon on Dec 2025
I used AV Klima in December for an installation. The technicians showed up on time, did everything very quickly, and fitted the air conditioning very well in a single visit, and there was no issue with communication. I got a quote beforehand and they explained the maintenance clearly. It was more expensive than I was expecting and more than some other providers, but the service was excellent and everything was done very well.

I hired Gedeone and his family company to put an air conditioner in my place. They are very, very nice, the service is very good, and they were the cheapest from all the other companies I checked. It took too long because we had to wait for the machines to arrive and I was upset about the delay, but they explained everything about maintenance and the AC is working good. We also had a problem with water because of the neighbors and they came especially to fix it, which was very nice.

I used this company for my air conditioning. It took a while to get connected and the WhatsApp replies were slow - sometimes a week to 10 days - and even the invoice came about a week later, plus on the day the guys were delayed after being stopped by the police. Once we finally scheduled, two guys came, worked about seven hours, were professional, left everything clean, and they added more gas and stuck to the quote. The price felt quite expensive but okay, and overall the work was very good.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I choose a trustworthy solar water heater technician in Lisbon?
Prioritise technicians with proven solar thermal experience in Lisbon. Check recent reviews, ask for references, and request a written, itemised quote with clear warranty terms. Confirm they’re insured, comfortable working with your specific brand/type, and can communicate in English. A brief site visit before quoting is a good quality signal.
How much does a solar water heater cost to install or repair in Lisbon?
Installation for a typical 150, 300 L domestic solar water heater in Lisbon often ranges from €1,800, €4,000. Call‑out diagnostics may be €60, €120; annual servicing/glycol change €120, €300; minor leak or pump repairs €150, €400. Prices are set by service providers and you pay them directly; prices are not listed on Locallista.
Do I need permits or condominium approval for solar water heaters in Lisbon?
In many cases, small domestic solar thermal systems don’t need full planning permission, but rules depend on visibility, building type, and conservation zones. Always check with Câmara Municipal de Lisboa and your condominium (assembleia de condóminos) for roof access approval. A technician can advise on compliance and documentation.
How often should I service a solar water heater in Lisbon?
Plan an annual service to check pump operation, sensors, controller settings, antifreeze (glycol) levels, and safety valves. In Lisbon’s climate, glycol typically needs replacement every 2, 5 years, and hard water may require periodic descaling of the cylinder or heat exchanger. Regular maintenance preserves efficiency and protects warranties.
Flat‑plate or evacuated tube: which is better for Lisbon?
Both work well in Lisbon’s sunny, mild climate. Flat‑plate collectors are robust and cost‑effective for most homes; evacuated tubes excel in cooler, windy, or partially shaded sites and can deliver higher temperatures. Your roof space, orientation, aesthetics, and hot‑water demand will determine the best option, ask for a site‑specific assessment.
Is my Lisbon apartment suitable for a solar water heater?
Yes, many Lisbon apartments can use solar thermal if there’s unshaded roof or terrace access and condominium approval. A compact thermosiphon set suits small households; pumped split systems allow flexible tank placement indoors. Technicians will size the cylinder (e.g., 150, 300 L) to your occupancy and check structure, anchors, and wind exposure.
Can I find English‑speaking solar technicians in Lisbon?
English‑speaking solar technicians are widely available in Lisbon, especially those serving international residents. When enquiring, request communication, reports, and quotes in English, and confirm WhatsApp availability for quick updates and photos. Clear language reduces misunderstandings on parts, timelines, and warranties, and speeds up approvals with landlords or condominiums.
How quickly can solar water heater repairs be done in Lisbon?
Response times vary by season. Many technicians offer next‑day visits, with some providing same‑day or 24/7 emergency support for leaks, overheating, or controller faults. Sharing photos, model numbers, and error codes in advance helps the technician bring the right spares and often shortens the repair on the day.
What warranties should I expect for solar water heaters in Portugal?
Expect manufacturer warranties on collectors (often 5, 10 years) and tanks/pumps (typically 2, 5 years), plus a separate workmanship guarantee from the installer. Get all terms in writing, including maintenance requirements and response times. Keep invoices and service records; you may need them for warranty claims or future property sales.
Are there incentives or rebates for solar water heaters in Lisbon or Portugal?
Portugal periodically runs incentive schemes for home energy upgrades, sometimes covering solar thermal, via national or municipal programmes. Availability and criteria change, so check current rules with Fundo Ambiental and the Lisbon municipality. Keep detailed quotes, receipts, and product certificates; these are often required for applications and audits.

Smart choices: dos and don’ts for hiring technicians for solar water heaters
Do’s
Do Check for Relevant Certifications
Ensure the technician holds relevant certifications for solar water heater installation. This demonstrates their commitment to professional standards and guarantees they are up-to-date with the latest technology and best practices in the industry.
Do Request Customer References
Ask for references from previous customers who had solar water heaters installed. Speaking with these individuals can provide insight into the technician's reliability, quality of work, and customer service, helping you to make a more informed decision.
Do Verify Insurance and Warranty Options
Confirm that the technician carries proper liability insurance and offers a warranty on their work. This protects you from potential liabilities in case of accidents during installation and ensures you have recourse if issues arise after the service.
Do Inquire About Experience with Specific Brands
Find out if the technician has experience working with the specific brand and model of your solar water heater. Technicians familiar with your system are more likely to provide a smoother installation process and better ongoing support.
Dont’s
Don't Hire Technicians Lacking Credentials
Choosing technicians who do not have the necessary certifications or licenses can lead to poorly performed installations or repairs. Always verify their qualifications to ensure they are trained and authorized to work on solar water heaters.
Don't Ignore Customer Reviews
Failing to read customer reviews can result in selecting a service provider with a history of unsatisfactory work. Take the time to evaluate past experiences shared by others to avoid potential pitfalls and ensure quality service.
Don't Accept Incomplete Estimates
Accepting vague or incomplete quotes without clear breakdowns of costs may lead to unexpected charges later. Ensure that any estimate includes detailed explanations of labor, materials, and warranties to avoid financial surprises.
Don't Overlook Warranty Policies
Neglecting to ask about warranty options before hiring a technician can leave you vulnerable to high repair costs later. Always inquire about the warranties on both parts and labor to ensure your investment is protected.
