I’m having the gas service done at my houses and everything is going well. It’s a good company and I’m happy with them - the price is good and the service is good. Sometimes it’s hard to talk to them and a few times they said they would come today but came the next day, and a couple of times they forgot to do it the way I asked so some things had to be changed. Usually when I call they call back the same day or the next day, so overall it went well.

I use them regularly for my construction projects. They are very professional guys, quick to do their jobs, very accessible, and always respectful and clean - they don’t mess the house. They came recommended by a friend, and after a good job I just kept working with them. Price feels not that expensive for the market.

I hired them for my heater in my new house that wasn’t working. A friend gave me the number, they came the next day already, the guy was on time, polite and fixed it in about half an hour. His English wasn’t perfect so we spoke half in English and half in Portuguese, this could be a bit hard for people who are not comfortable with Portuguese, but it worked. Price felt fair and overall it went very, very well.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find an English-speaking gas technician in Lisbon?
Lisbon has many English-speaking gas technicians experienced with expats. Prioritise providers who clearly state language support and offer written quotes. Check recent reviews for reliability, punctuality, and aftercare on gas boiler repair, installation, and maintenance, and confirm they are comfortable explaining safety steps and warranty terms in English.
What services do gas technicians in Lisbon typically provide?
Common services include gas boiler installation and repair, leak detection, gas safety checks, appliance installation, gas line installation, and routine maintenance. Many also handle LPG-to-natural-gas conversions and ventilation checks for compliance. Both residential and commercial gas services are widely available across Lisbon’s central and suburban neighbourhoods.
What should I do if I smell gas in my Lisbon home?
Open windows and doors immediately, avoid using electrical switches, extinguish flames, and turn off the gas at the main valve if safe. Evacuate and call 112 and your gas network operator’s emergency line (shown on your bill). Only contact a gas technician for repairs once authorities confirm it is safe.
Are annual gas inspections required in Lisbon?
Annual inspections are not universally mandated in Portugal, but checks may be required for new installations, supply activation or reconnection, significant alterations, or by building rules. Regardless, an annual boiler service is strongly recommended for safety, efficiency, and warranty compliance. Confirm specific requirements with your building manager or gas supplier.
How much does a gas technician cost in Lisbon?
Prices vary by provider and job complexity. Typical Lisbon ranges include call-out fees from about €30, €60, hourly rates from €30, €50+, and a standard boiler service from €70, €120, with premiums for emergencies or out-of-hours work. Prices are set by each provider, and payment is arranged directly with them.
What qualifications should I look for in a Lisbon gas technician?
Choose a technician working with an authorised gas installation company and ask for proof of competence and insurance. Request a detailed written estimate covering parts, labour, and any call-out fees, plus warranty terms. Reviews and references help confirm experience with your gas system and boiler brand.
Can a Lisbon gas technician convert my appliances from LPG to natural gas?
Yes, many technicians handle conversions from bottled LPG to mains natural gas. They will replace injectors/nozzles, adjust regulators, check ventilation and flueing, and test for safe operation. Ask what documentation may be required for compliance if your utility needs proof after the conversion.
How quickly can I get a gas boiler repaired or installed in Lisbon?
For urgent faults, many technicians offer same-day or next-day visits, especially for gas leak repair or no-heat issues. A straightforward boiler installation usually takes one to two days, plus time for inspection, parts ordering, or scheduling. Lead times lengthen in winter, so book early when possible.
Will I receive a gas safety certificate after work in Lisbon?
For new installations or major alterations, an inspection by an authorised entity may be required and a certificate issued before activating or reconnecting supply. Routine repairs may not need a new certificate. Keep all service records and ask your gas supplier which documents are necessary for your property.
How can I vet and compare gas technicians effectively in Lisbon?
Request at least three written quotes that specify scope, parts, labour, call-out fees, and warranty. Check recent reviews, ask for references, and confirm experience with your boiler brand and fuel type. Compare response times and aftercare policies, and ask for proof of insurance before any work begins.

A knowledgeable and certified technician can ensure that your gas systems operate smoothly and efficiently. Remember, a little due diligence goes a long way when it comes to ensuring the safety and comfort of your home.
Dos and Don’ts as an expat
Smart choices: dos and don’ts for hiring a reliable gas technician
Do’s
Do Check for Proper Licensing and Certification
Ensure that the gas technician you consider hiring holds valid licenses and certifications. This indicates that they have met the necessary legal standards and possess the technical expertise required for safe and effective gas work.
Do Read Customer Reviews for Insight
Before making a final decision, review feedback from previous customers. Look for comments on reliability, professionalism, and quality of work to gauge how well the technician meets customer expectations and handles challenges.
Do Inquire About Their Experience with Specific Gas Systems
Ask potential technicians about their experience with different types of gas systems and appliances. Finding someone who specializes in your specific type of system can lead to better service and a quicker resolution of any issues.
Do Ask for a Detailed Estimate Before Work Begins
Request a detailed, written estimate for any proposed work. This should outline the costs, materials, and time frame, ensuring you understand what to expect and helping you compare services among different technicians.
Dont’s
Don't Hire a Technician Without Proper Credentials
Ensure that any gas technician you consider is fully qualified and licensed to perform the work. Hiring unlicensed individuals increases safety risks and may lead to non-compliance with regulations, potentially resulting in severe consequences for your home and health.
Don't Ignore Customer Feedback on Timeliness
Pay attention to reviews regarding punctuality. A technician who frequently arrives late or misses appointments may disrupt your schedule and indicate poor professional practices, which can lead to further issues down the line in service quality and reliability.
Don't Overlook Warranty and Service Guarantee Limitations
Always check for warranties or service guarantees before hiring. Technicians lacking clear guarantees may provide subpar work, and without proper coverage, you may face additional costs for any necessary repairs or corrections in the future.
Don't Be Misled by Low Initial Quotes
Beware of unusually low quotes that may not include all costs. These can lead to unexpected charges during service. Always request a detailed breakdown of the estimate and ensure that you understand what is included to avoid surprises once the work begins.
