Pedro runs a dog creche and also does training, and my dog goes there about three times per week and it's always been a good experience. When my pup was new I did a bit of training with him to figure out a good strategy, and he was super nice and always willing to give advice, even for free. He keeps me updated on WhatsApp and honestly he’s like a sensei of dogs - they just listen to him and he can command them. Overall it feels like really good value for what you pay.

I’ve been with Pedro for more than four years, since my dog was a puppy. He stayed with Pedro from almost the very beginning, not only in his dog crash during the week and day, but also with him at his house, and it’s been amazing. He does dog training himself, the grooming he does not do, but my dog does get groomed by his company, and he’s basically like part of the family now - or our dog is part of his family, vice versa. I wouldn’t leave my dog with friends of mine, I prefer Pedro, he is really wonderful and that’s the honest truth.

We have two labs, and Pedro scheduled one dog each day, came right on time to pick them up, took them to the facility, and when we had to reschedule he was very accommodating and nice. He sent me pictures while he was doing the grooming; I didn’t see the facility, but the photos looked great and my dogs seemed to enjoy their time there. They came back smelling and looking wonderful, and since I don’t have a car the pickup and return was really nice. The price felt about normal, maybe a little high, but overall a really good experience.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does pet grooming cost in Lisbon?
Prices vary by breed, size, coat condition, and extras. In Lisbon, a bath and brush typically ranges €20, €40 for small dogs, while a full groom can be €40, €80+. Cats often start around €30, €60. Each groomer sets their own rates; request a quote and pay them directly.
Are English-speaking pet groomers easy to find in Lisbon?
Yes. English-speaking pet groomers are common in central Lisbon and expat-friendly areas like Príncipe Real, Chiado, and Parque das Nações. Check language options on profiles, then message via WhatsApp to confirm. Sending photos and describing your pet’s temperament helps ensure the groomer understands exactly what you need.
How do I choose a vetted, trustworthy groomer in Lisbon?
Prioritise groomers with consistently high, recent reviews and clear before‑and‑after photos. Visit the salon to assess cleanliness, drying methods, and handling policies. Ask about experience with your breed or cats, products used (including hypoallergenic shampoos), and how they manage matting or emergencies before you book.
Do pet groomers in Lisbon require vaccinations?
Many Lisbon salons require proof of up‑to‑date vaccinations for safety. Dogs are commonly asked for rabies and core vaccines; cats for FVRCP. Bring your pet’s vaccination booklet or EU passport. Policies vary by groomer, so confirm requirements when booking and before travelling to the appointment.
Is mobile pet grooming available in Lisbon?
Mobile grooming is available across Lisbon and is ideal for nervous pets or busy schedules. Vans are usually self‑contained; some may ask for parking access. Coverage, time windows, and pricing vary by groomer, so confirm availability for your neighbourhood and request a quote with photos of your pet.
How often should my pet be groomed in Lisbon’s climate?
Most dogs benefit from professional grooming every 4, 8 weeks, depending on coat type and lifestyle. Long‑haired cats may need 6, 12‑weekly sessions for de‑matting or hygiene trims. Lisbon’s mild, sometimes humid climate can increase matting and shedding, so regular at‑home brushing helps extend time between appointments.
Can Lisbon groomers handle anxious or senior pets?
Many Lisbon groomers offer low‑stress handling, one‑to‑one sessions, and quieter slots for anxious or senior pets. Tell them about health issues, mobility limits, or past grooming challenges. Only veterinarians can sedate; discuss alternatives like shorter sessions, comfort breaks, and owner‑present introductions if the groomer allows it.
What’s included in a typical full groom in Lisbon?
A standard full groom typically includes consultation, bath, blow‑dry, brush‑out, haircut or hand stripping, nail trim, ear cleaning, and finishing. Extras such as de‑matting, de‑shedding, teeth cleaning, or anal glands may cost more. Always agree the scope, products, and any add‑ons before the groom begins.
How long does a grooming appointment take and how do I book?
Allow 1, 2 hours for small dogs; 2, 3+ hours for large, double‑coated, or matted pets. Cats vary by temperament. Weekends book up fast in Lisbon, so reserve early. Most groomers confirm details and quotes via WhatsApp, while nail trims are often available as quick, walk‑in services.
Do Lisbon groomers offer breed-specific cuts and hand stripping?
Yes. Many Lisbon groomers are experienced with breed‑specific styles and hand stripping for wire‑coated breeds. Ask about training, tools, and maintenance advice, and request portfolio photos. For show‑standard grooms, book ahead and plan a consultation so expectations, coat condition, and timing are fully aligned.

Dos and Don’ts as an expat
Key dos and don’ts for ensuring your pet gets the best grooming experience
Do’s
Do Research Groomers' Qualifications
Ensure the groomer has relevant certifications and training in pet grooming. Look for reviews that highlight their educational background and experience, as this can greatly influence the quality and safety of the grooming process for your pet.
Do Read Customer Testimonials
Look for customer reviews that detail positive experiences, particularly those praising the groomer's patience and gentleness with pets. Satisfied customers often share insights that can help you gauge the groomer's ability to handle different breeds and temperaments.
Do Inquire About Grooming Products Used
Ask potential groomers about the products they use during grooming sessions. Opt for service providers who use high-quality, pet-safe shampoos and tools, as this is important for your pet's health and comfort during the grooming process.
Do Visit the Grooming Facility
Schedule a visit to the grooming facility to assess cleanliness, organization, and the overall atmosphere. A well-maintained and welcoming environment often reflects the groomer's professionalism and the level of care they provide to pets.
Dont’s
Don't Skip Checking Groomer Qualifications
Always verify the qualifications and certifications of pet groomers before making an appointment. Unqualified personnel can lead to mishandling of pets, potential injury, or inadequate grooming services, compromising your pet's safety and comfort.
Don't Ignore Reviews and Past Customer Experiences
Neglecting to read customer reviews can lead to disappointing outcomes. Previous clients often share insights about their experiences that can highlight issues such as poor service, negligence, or lack of professionalism. Take time to research and select providers with positive feedback.
Don't Assume All Grooming Facilities Are Clean
Make sure to assess the cleanliness and hygiene of the grooming facility. Reviews frequently mention unclean environments leading to infections or distress for pets. A clean and well-maintained space is crucial for your pet's health and well-being.
Don't Overlook Service Agendas and Packages
Be cautious of vague service descriptions or unclear grooming packages. A lack of transparency can lead to unexpected charges or inadequate services. Ensure you understand what is included in grooming packages to avoid surprises and ensure your pet receives the care they need.
