Lisbon on May 2026
She is wonderful with dogs and has done an amazing job with our big dog. We first had her for sitting and now we have her doing training too, and she’s been very flexible - she put up with our schedule disruption and even stayed a bit extra when things ran late. She would send us pictures on WhatsApp, she was punctual always, and she’s very polite, a lovely lady. Price felt fair and we’re very happy, so we continue to use her.

I have a dog, Tito, and Júlia is always very responsible. My dog often stays with her, who is wonderful and very responsible too, and every day they send me photos and videos. It has been around three or four times my dog stayed with them. They also recommended a trainer called Bruno, who is a great professional. I feel safe leaving my dog with her, and while the price is a little expensive, though I still recommend Júlia.

Igor is an excellent dog walker who genuinely cares for animals, as witnessed by his work training dogs at a shelter. Our dog already has a strong bond with him and gets excited every time he arrives--which tells me everything I need to know about trust. He sends photos of each walk and communicates regularly and clearly. With life in a big city, there can sometimes be traffic/mass transit delays, but, he always meets our expectations, and his pricing is fair and competitive. We're thrilled to have found him and recommend him wholeheartedly.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much do dog walkers cost in Lisbon?
Expect roughly €10-€18 for a 30-minute group walk and €15-€25 for a 30-minute one-to-one in Lisbon; longer, evening or weekend slots usually cost more. Rates are set by each dog walker and you pay them directly. Prices are not listed on Locallista, and multi-dog or package deals vary.
How can I vet an English-speaking dog walker in Lisbon?
Check verified reviews, ask for recent client references and request a meet-and-greet to observe handling, communication and your dog's comfort. Reputable walkers can outline routes, contingency plans and provide proof of insurance and canine first-aid training. Clear WhatsApp updates and a written service agreement help ensure reliability and accountability.
Is group or one-to-one dog walking better in Lisbon?
Group walks in Lisbon are budget-friendly and great for socialisation, but they suit calm, well-trained dogs. One-to-one walks give focused attention, tailored pace and safer management for puppies, seniors or reactive dogs, especially on Lisbon's busy streets and hills. Ask about group size limits and dog matching criteria.
What areas of Lisbon do dog walkers usually cover?
Most dog walkers cover central neighbourhoods such as Baixa, Chiado, Alfama, Graça, Estrela, Campo de Ourique, Príncipe Real, Avenidas Novas and Parque das Nações, plus nearby areas like Belém and Alcântara. Some travel to Monsanto or suburban zones for park walks. Always confirm coverage and any travel fees.
Can dog walkers in Lisbon handle reactive or anxious dogs?
Yes, many Lisbon walkers specialise in reactive or anxious dogs, using positive reinforcement, distance management and calmer routes. Share triggers, equipment preferences and any muzzle requirements, as certain breeds must wear a muzzle and lead by law. A trial walk and clear handling plan are strongly recommended before regular bookings.
What’s typically included in a dog walking service in Lisbon?
A standard service usually includes pick-up and drop-off, a lead-walk in your area or a local park, poo bags, fresh water and post-walk updates via WhatsApp, often with photos or GPS. Feeding, towel-drying, basic training cues or medication can be added on request. Always confirm inclusions upfront.
Are Lisbon dog walkers insured and trained in canine first aid?
Professional dog walkers in Lisbon typically carry public liability insurance and may hold canine first-aid training. Ask for proof and what's covered, including key loss, property damage and vet bills in emergencies. Clarify their emergency protocol, your preferred vet details and consent to seek treatment if needed.
How are walks scheduled, and what are common cancellation policies?
Bookings are commonly arranged via WhatsApp, with recurring weekday slots available for commuters and digital nomads. Many walkers ask for 24-48 hours' notice to cancel without charge; late cancellations or peak-time changes may incur a fee. Short-notice, evening and weekend walks are often possible, sometimes at higher rates.
How do Lisbon dog walkers manage keys and apartment access securely?
Trusted walkers use signed key-handover forms, coded lockboxes or secure key rings without addresses, and can liaise with building porters when required. Ask about ID, access logs and data protection for alarm codes or smart locks. A clear procedure reduces risk and keeps both home and pet safe.
How do walkers handle Lisbon’s weather and local rules?
In summer heat, walkers typically schedule early or late, carry water, seek shade and check pavement temperature to protect paws; rainy days mean shorter routes and towel-drying. Lisbon requires leads in public and prompt waste disposal. Some regulated breeds must wear muzzles and leads - ensure legal equipment is provided.

Dos and Don’ts as an expat
Essential dos and don’ts for selecting the perfect dog walker for your furry friend
Do’s
Do Choose a Service Provider Experienced with Anxious Dogs
Select a dog walker or groomer who has a proven track record of working with anxious or sensitive dogs. Look for testimonials that highlight their ability to offer a calm and comforting environment, as this can make a significant difference in your pet's experience.
Do Inquire About Flexibility in Services
When hiring a dog walker or groomer, ask about their flexibility in adjusting schedules based on your pet's needs. A provider who accommodates your dog's anxiety through personalized care and attention can enhance their well-being during grooming or walking sessions.
Do Evaluate Cleanliness and Organization of the Facility
Prioritize service providers who maintain a clean and organized environment. A hygienic facility ensures safety and comfort for your pet, indicating that the provider takes their care seriously and is dedicated to delivering high-quality service.
Do Look for Additional Training Services
Consider hiring dog walkers or groomers who also offer training services. This adds value as they not only care for your dog during walks or grooming but can also help with behavior training, making your pet's overall experience more beneficial.
Dont’s
Don't Hire Dog Walkers Without Experience with Anxious Dogs
Choosing a dog walker without experience handling anxious or sensitive dogs can lead to additional stress for your pet. Ensure that the service provider has a proven track record of accommodating dogs with special needs, as an inexperienced handler may exacerbate anxiety.
Don't Ignore the Importance of Communication Skills
Selecting a dog walker or groomer who struggles with clear communication can result in misunderstandings regarding your pet's needs and care routines. Prioritize providers who can engage in meaningful conversations and clearly convey important information about your pet.
Don't Underestimate the Value of Cleanliness and Organization
A service provider’s environment can significantly impact your pet’s comfort and safety. Opt for dog walkers or groomers who maintain a clean and organized space as it reflects their level of professionalism and the quality of care your pet will receive.
Don't Overlook a Provider's Flexibility and Dependability
Hiring a service provider who isn't flexible or reliable can lead to repeated cancellations and inadequate care for your pet. Ensure that your dog walker or groomer has a history of dependable service to avoid unnecessary disruptions in your pet's routine.
