Lisbon on May 2026

My guide was very knowledgeable and made learning about Lisbon's history fun. The private tour covered the city's history and sights and felt like good quality and was perfectly on time. Communication was fine and overall I had a great experience. I would recommend his services.

We used Lino for the first time in 2023 when we arrived in Portugal, he picked us up at the airport and transferred us to the Algarve, and later from the Algarve to the Silver Coast. Every time I travel I go to Lino, he is my go to person, and he has also transported my family from the airport to our house in the Silver Coast. His service is always top class, he is friendly, helpful, very knowledgeable, and he always provides additional information, tips, and guidance. On a couple of occasions he even did a detour to a supermarket so we could pick up some basic groceries, and I think the price is fair.

I had friends over or family and we booked a trip with her and it was super nice. She was so friendly, totally on time, and I was super happy with how everything went. The car was super nice, clean, with water and little goodies - little bonbons - not what you normally expect. The price was okay, just normal, and I totally recommend her.

Frequently Asked Questions

What expats want to know before hiring tour guides in Lisbon.

Are there English-speaking tour guides in Lisbon?
Yes, and more do as the expat community grows. The hard part is knowing who is reliable before you book, so every one we list is reviewed by other expats who have actually used them.
What should I check before hiring tour guides in Lisbon?
Read recent reviews, be clear about exactly what you need, and agree the scope and an estimate in writing before any work starts. For anything regulated, check they hold the right credentials for the job.
What is the most important thing to know before booking?
Be clear about what you want and get the price and scope agreed up front, so there are no surprises. Reading other expats' reviews is the quickest way to find someone who does the job well and communicates clearly.
What should I avoid when hiring tour guides in Lisbon?
Avoid paying the full amount up front (a deposit can be fair), anyone who will not give a clear quote, and unusually cheap prices that get padded with extras later.
How do I explain what I need if my Portuguese is limited?
A photo, a short video or a written list does most of the talking, and the professionals we list are used to international clients. Booking an English-speaking one takes the stress out of it entirely.
How do you say tour guides in Portuguese?
In Portuguese, tour guides are usually called guias turisticos. That is the word to search for or to ask a neighbour, though many professionals here are used to the English term too.
How do I find tour guides I can trust in Lisbon?
Check the reviews and any credentials before you book. On Locallista the reviews are phone-verified and the ranking is based on real expat experience, not who paid the most.

Select a tour guide who crafts tailor-made experiences based on your unique interests and preferences. Personalized tours enhance engagement and ensure that you visit places that resonate with your specific desires.
Do Look for Knowledgeable Guides
Choose a tour guide with extensive knowledge of local culture, history, and cuisine. Guides who can share interesting anecdotes and insights add depth to the experience, making your exploration more enriching and memorable.
Do Seek Friendly and Approachable Guides
Find a tour guide who is warm and personable. A friendly demeanor helps create a comfortable atmosphere, making it easier to engage and ask questions, which can significantly enhance your overall experience.
Do Consider Flexibility in Scheduling
Opt for a guide who offers flexibility in scheduling and itinerary adjustments. This adaptability allows for spontaneous exploration and ensures that the tour can accommodate your pace and preferences.
Do Check for Positive Reviews and Recommendations
Look for guides with consistently positive reviews and recommendations from previous clients. Feedback about their engaging nature, professionalism, and memorable experiences can serve as a reliable indicator of the quality of their services.
Dont’s
Don't Assume All Guides Will Be Engaging
Not all tour guides possess the ability to create an engaging atmosphere or connect with their clients. Ensure to read reviews that highlight guides' interpersonal skills and how they interact with guests to avoid a lackluster experience.
Don't Neglect to Verify Knowledge and Expertise
It's crucial not to overlook the specific knowledge and expertise of a guide. Make sure to choose guides who are praised for their depth of knowledge about the locations on your itinerary to ensure a rich and informative experience.
Don't Overlook Flexibility in Itineraries
Avoid selecting tour guides who don’t demonstrate flexibility with their itineraries. Reviews indicate that the ability to adapt plans to fit guest preferences significantly enhances the experience, making it more enjoyable and personalized.
Don't Ignore the Importance of Recommendations
Choosing a guide without checking peer recommendations or previous customer experiences can lead to disappointment. Look for guides with consistently positive feedback from past clients to ensure you're making a wise choice.
