Adrian

Lisbon on Dec 2025

I had Miguel install a heat pump for my pool. He was very punctual the two times he had to come - first to do the budget and he was very well prepared, and then the job was done quickly in two days. His team did the installation, they had to go through pipes in several places, and he came the last day to see how everything had been. Everything was perfect, very well installed and working without problems, and the price felt ok and fair.

I hired Lavender Glow for my pool and they are very reliable people. If there is some problem, they fix it and try to find out what it is. They don’t just go with the normal respirator, they even go inside the pool and take out many things, the guy works good and doesn’t mind doing the hard stuff. Price felt perfect, these guys are amazing.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should a swimming pool be serviced in Lisbon's climate?
In Lisbon's mild, coastal climate, most residential pools need weekly cleaning in summer and at least fortnightly service in cooler months. After storms, heavy use, or algae blooms, schedule an extra visit. Regular water testing and balancing prevents corrosion, scaling, and cloudy water, keeping your pool safe and swim-ready.
What does a standard weekly pool maintenance visit include?
A standard weekly pool maintenance visit typically includes skimming, brushing, vacuuming, emptying baskets, backwashing or cleaning filters, water testing, and chemical balancing. Technicians also check pumps, heaters, and timers for early signs of failure. Clarify whether chemicals are included, as some Lisbon providers itemise them separately from labour.
How much does pool maintenance cost in Lisbon?
Prices in Lisbon vary by pool size, access, and frequency. As ballpark figures, routine maintenance often costs €50, €90 per visit, monthly plans for residential pools can run €180, €350, and one-off deep cleans €150, €300. Final rates are set by each provider, with payment made directly to them.
How can I vet a pool maintenance company in Lisbon?
To vet a pool maintenance company in Lisbon, ask for recent customer references, verified reviews, and proof of insurance. Request a written service plan covering water testing methods, chemical dosing, and equipment checks, plus response times and warranties on parts. Consistent reporting in English helps ensure transparent, measurable results.
Do pool technicians in Lisbon speak English?
Yes, many Lisbon pool technicians serving expats speak English and can provide reports, invoices, and WhatsApp updates in English. When enquiring, confirm language support for on-site communication and documentation, especially for water test results and equipment recommendations, to avoid misunderstandings.
Can I book a one-off clean, or do I need a contract?
Most Lisbon providers offer both ad-hoc cleans and scheduled maintenance plans. Regular weekly or fortnightly service keeps water chemistry stable and reduces long-term costs, while one-off jobs suit seasonal opening, winterisation, or post-construction cleans. Clarify minimum terms, cancellation policies, and any call-out fees before you agree.
Do Lisbon providers service saltwater and eco-friendly pools?
Lisbon technicians commonly manage saltwater pools, mineral systems, UV or ozone sanitisation, and variable-speed pumps. Saltwater pools still need pH, alkalinity, and stabiliser control, plus periodic cell cleaning. Ask about brand experience with chlorinators and whether eco-friendly chemicals or energy-efficient upgrades are available for your setup.
How are payments usually handled for pool services in Lisbon?
In Lisbon, you usually pay your pool service provider directly by bank transfer, MB Way, card, or cash, depending on their policy. Request an itemised quote that lists labour, chemicals, parts, and call-out fees. Clear, written estimates prevent surprises and make comparing offers straightforward.
What should I prepare before the first maintenance visit?
Before the first visit, share pool dimensions and volume, finish type (tile, liner, concrete), equipment brands, and recent photos. Note access restrictions, cover type, and any known issues like leaks or pump noise. This helps the technician bring the right parts and quote accurately for cleaning and repairs.
Is emergency pool repair available in Lisbon?
Emergency pool repairs in Lisbon, such as pump failures, leaks, or green water, are often available same day, with some providers offering 24/7 call-outs. Ask about call-out rates, diagnostic fees, and typical response times. For safety, request immediate steps to isolate electrics or secure the area until repair.

Dos and Don’ts as an expat

Smart choices: dos and don’ts for selecting the right swimming pool maintenance service

Do’s
Do Verify Their Experience with Pool Types
Select a service provider who has ample experience maintaining your specific type of pool, whether it be above-ground, in-ground, or a unique design. This ensures they are familiar with the maintenance requirements and potential issues that can arise, leading to a higher quality service.
Do Check for Customer Reviews and References
Before hiring, look for providers with positive customer reviews and willing to share references. Authentic feedback from past clients helps gauge reliability and service quality, ensuring you choose a provider known for effective and satisfactory pool maintenance.
Do Inquire About Their Maintenance Schedule Options
Ask potential service providers about their available maintenance schedule options, including frequency and flexibility. A reliable provider should offer tailored maintenance plans that align with your needs, helping to keep your pool in optimal condition year-round.
Do Request a Detailed Service Plan
Choose a pool maintenance provider who is ready to provide a detailed service plan outlining their approach to upkeep. This should include cleaning, chemical balancing, and any additional services, ensuring transparency and allowing you to anticipate and understand the level of care your pool will receive.
Dont’s
Don't Ignore Verification of Credentials
Always verify the credentials and certifications of any swimming pool maintenance service provider. Failing to do so can lead to hiring inexperienced technicians who may not follow proper safety protocols or industry standards, potentially jeopardizing the safety of your pool.
Don't Overlook References and Reviews
Never hire a service provider without checking their references or customer reviews. Ignoring this step can result in contracting a company that has a history of poor service quality, unfulfilled promises, or ongoing issues that could have been avoided with proper research.
Don't Accept Vague Proposals
Be cautious of service providers who present vague or ambiguous proposals. Clear and detailed service agreements are essential to understanding what services are included, preventing unexpected charges or gaps in service that could affect your pool's maintenance.
Don't Forget to Inquire About Insurance
Ensure that the service provider has appropriate insurance coverage. Hiring a company without liability insurance can expose you to significant risks if accidents or damages occur during maintenance, leaving you liable for repair costs.
