It’s been great to work with Willem. I hired him for kettlebell training and he’s very good at what he does. He has a ton of experience and I have nothing bad to say about my experience so far. We do sessions on the outskirts of Lisbon and it just works for me.

I’ve trained with Willem for almost 15 years and he is a very good trainer. He understands what my needs are and built a plan specially for High Rocks in Utrecht - 10 km running with exercises that takes around one and a half hours - and he trains me two times a week via FaceTime from Lisbon while I’m in Rotterdam. He really motivates me to get the best out of myself and checks in after sessions with tips to recover, and he’s always on time, sending a WhatsApp 10-15 minutes before and calling at the exact hour. Price feels worth it, and I already did High Rocks twice last year so I know he gets what I have to train.

I train with Willem for kettlebell sessions in a park near my house around Lisbon, and we’ve been at it for almost half a year, maybe longer. He’s a great guy and a great trainer - we meet almost every week and he is always on time, no missed trainings. Communication is easy since he speaks Dutch, Russian and English, so we communicate pretty well. Price feels really good and I’m very satisfied with his service.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I choose the right TRX trainer in Lisbon?
Prioritise English-speaking TRX trainers in Lisbon with proven experience and strong reviews. Ask about TRX certification, first-aid training, and experience with expats or your specific goals (fat loss, mobility, rehab). Request a quick WhatsApp call and a trial session to check coaching style, punctuality, and whether the programme feels personalised.
Are TRX workouts suitable for beginners or injury rehab?
TRX is highly scalable, making it safe for beginners and effective for low-impact strength after injury. Choose a Lisbon trainer who performs a movement screen, explains regressions/progressions, and liaises with your physio if needed. Always seek medical clearance for injuries and ensure sessions prioritise form, tempo, and controlled range.
Where do TRX sessions usually take place in Lisbon?
In Lisbon, TRX sessions can happen at home, in a condo gym, at a studio, outdoors in parks or riverside, or online. Many trainers bring a suspension trainer and door/anchor solutions. Confirm weather back-up plans, access permissions, and travel surcharges, and agree your preferred WhatsApp schedule slots in advance.
How much does a TRX trainer cost in Lisbon?
Private TRX training in Lisbon typically ranges from €30, €70 for a 45, 60 minute session, with discounts for packages; small groups may run €12, €25 per person. Prices are set by each trainer and paid directly to them. Ask for what’s included (travel, equipment, programme updates) and request a receipt if required.
How can I check a trainer’s quality and safety?
Review recent client feedback, ask for proof of insurance and first-aid/CPR training, and confirm TRX-specific education. A reliable Lisbon trainer will explain their assessment, warm-up, and progression strategy, and share clear policies on punctuality and cancellations. Consider a paid trial to evaluate communication, cueing, and hygiene of shared equipment.
Do Lisbon TRX trainers speak English or other languages?
Many TRX trainers in Lisbon are English-speaking and also cover Portuguese, Spanish, French, or other languages. Confirm your preferred language for coaching cues, programming notes, and WhatsApp messages. If you’re not fluent in Portuguese, ask for bilingual guidance to navigate studio rules, outdoor permits, and any paperwork.
How often should I train and how long are sessions?
Most Lisbon TRX sessions last 45, 60 minutes. Beginners or busy professionals often start with two sessions weekly, adding a third as recovery allows. Your trainer should tailor frequency to your goals, sleep and stress levels, and may provide short home routines for travel weeks to maintain momentum.
What should I bring and wear for TRX in Lisbon?
Wear breathable clothing and grippy training shoes, and bring water and a small towel. For home or park sessions, ask if the trainer provides the suspension trainer and safe anchor, or whether you need a door anchor. In summer, consider shade, sunscreen, and earlier time slots to avoid midday heat.
Should I choose private or small-group TRX sessions?
Private TRX training offers fully personalised coaching, faster feedback, and flexible scheduling, ideal for beginners or rehab. Small-group sessions in Lisbon (2, 6 people) reduce costs and add accountability, but offer less individual attention. Clarify the coach-to-client ratio, shared equipment hygiene, and whether programmes are adapted for mixed abilities.
What about scheduling, punctuality, and cancellations?
Punctuality matters in Lisbon’s fitness scene; late arrivals usually shorten session time. Clarify the trainer’s WhatsApp booking process and cancellation window, 24 hours is common, to avoid being charged. Agree meeting points for outdoor sessions, building access protocols for home visits, and holiday arrangements during peak travel periods.
Selecting the right TRX trainer is a pivotal step towards achieving your fitness goals while enjoying the process. Prioritizing qualities such as punctuality, personalized training methods, and a solid understanding of physiology will set you up for success. Meanwhile, steering clear of rigid schedules, lack of flexibility, and a one-size-fits-all approach will ensure that your training experience remains engaging and effective. By keeping these dos and don’ts in mind, you’ll be empowered to find a TRX trainer who not only meets your needs but also inspires you to reach new heights in your fitness journey.
Dos and Don’ts as an expat
Smart choices: dos and don’ts for finding the ideal trx trainer
Do’s
Do Prioritize Punctuality in Trainers
Select a trainer who is consistently punctual, as reliability in scheduling indicates their commitment to your fitness journey. A punctual trainer shows respect for your time and helps maintain the momentum of your workouts.
Do Look for Personalized Training Approaches
Choose a trainer who tailors workouts to your specific needs and fitness goals. A personalized approach ensures that you receive the right level of challenge and support, making your training both effective and engaging.
Do Seek Trainers with Strong Knowledge of Physiology
Find trainers who demonstrate a solid understanding of anatomy and physiology. This expertise will help ensure that your workouts are safe, effective, and designed to help you achieve your fitness goals more efficiently.
Do Consider Flexibility in Training Locations
Opt for trainers who can adapt to your preferred workout environment, whether it be at home or in a gym setting. This flexibility allows you to train consistently in a comfortable environment that suits your lifestyle.
Dont’s
Don't Ignore the Importance of Punctuality
Punctuality is crucial when selecting a trx trainer. A trainer who fails to arrive on time can disrupt your workout schedule and diminish the effectiveness of your training sessions. Ensure that your trainer values time as much as you do.
Don't Underestimate the Need for Flexibility
Choose a trx trainer who demonstrates flexibility in planning sessions. Rigid schedules can limit your ability to maintain consistency in workouts, which is vital for progress. Look for trainers who accommodate your specific needs and timing.
Don't Overlook the Trainer's Knowledge of Physiology
Selecting a trx trainer with a solid understanding of physiology and anatomy is essential. Trainers lacking this knowledge may not provide exercises that suit your fitness level, potentially leading to ineffective workouts or even injury.
Don't Settle for a One-Size-Fits-All Approach
A trx trainer that fails to tailor workouts to your individual needs may not be the best choice. Personalization is key to achieving your fitness goals; ensure that your trainer demonstrates creativity and adaptability in their training methods.
