I have known Monica for about 10 years now and I am still in awe of her work. She has a lot of experience with working with kids and adults. I have been apart of some of her art theapry and womends group sessions and she has a way of making everyone feel welcome and comfotable. She is wonderful and I recommomend her to everyone!

Vienne, May 2025

Since last year I’ve been doing weekly online sessions with Isabel on WhatsApp - about an hour with 30 minutes of free talk, then relaxation and a creative drawing part. We do it in French, she remembers everything I say, adapts every session to what I bring, and the mix of guided relaxation and drawing surprised me because I’m not good at drawing but it’s about what comes out; one time I almost fell asleep and she had to wake me. Doing it from home is super convenient and the connection works great, I feel like she’s right in front of me. It’s been incredibly beneficial even without a big problem, and while it’s a bit expensive, I’m really happy with the results.

I met Monica through a mothers community and first saw her in some events and workshops she did, and her way of working really resonated with me. I’ve been doing art therapy with her for about two or three months, and the way she explains things and commands the sessions really helps you get where you need to go - I always leave feeling better than when I came in. Sessions are usually around two hours, I’ve also done one hour, and if she needs to she extends, which shows she’s really focused on helping and not just the money. The price felt fair and like what everyone else charges, and I’d recommend her 100 percent.

Frequently Asked Questions

What expats want to know before hiring art therapists in Barcelona.

Are there English-speaking art therapists in Barcelona?
Yes, and more do as the expat community grows. The hard part is knowing who is reliable before you book, so every one we list is reviewed by other expats who have actually used them.
What should I check before hiring art therapists in Barcelona?
Read recent reviews, be clear about exactly what you need, and agree the scope and an estimate in writing before any work starts. For anything regulated, check they hold the right credentials for the job.
What is the most important thing to know before booking?
Be clear about what you want and get the price and scope agreed up front, so there are no surprises. Reading other expats' reviews is the quickest way to find someone who does the job well and communicates clearly.
What should I avoid when hiring art therapists in Barcelona?
Avoid paying the full amount up front (a deposit can be fair), anyone who will not give a clear quote, and unusually cheap prices that get padded with extras later.
How do I explain what I need if my Spanish is limited?
A photo, a short video or a written list does most of the talking, and the professionals we list are used to international clients. Booking an English-speaking one takes the stress out of it entirely.
How do you say art therapists in Spanish?
In Spanish, art therapists are usually called arteterapeutas. That is the word to search for or to ask a neighbour, though many professionals here are used to the English term too.
How do I find art therapists I can trust in Barcelona?
Check the reviews and any credentials before you book. On Locallista the reviews are phone-verified and the ranking is based on real expat experience, not who paid the most.

Dos and Don’ts as an expat

Essential dos and don’ts for selecting the right art therapist for your creative journey

Do’s
Do Seek Out Experienced Instructors
Look for art therapists with substantial backgrounds and diverse approaches, such as integrating movement, creativity, and therapeutic elements. Their experience enables them to create enriching and transformative sessions that cater to individual needs.
Do Consider Personalized Approaches
Choose a therapist who tailors sessions to your specific emotional and artistic needs. Reviewers highlighted that personalized interactions and a genuine interest in participants' feelings led to more meaningful and impactful therapy experiences.
Do Prioritize a Comfortable Environment
Select art therapists who foster a warm and inviting atmosphere. Reviews emphasize the importance of feeling at ease during sessions, as this comfort allows for authentic expression and deeper self-discovery in the therapeutic process.
Do Look for Positive Group Dynamics
Investigate whether the therapist encourages a supportive group environment. Many customers mentioned the benefits of attending sessions with others, as group dynamics can enhance learning, provide shared experiences, and create a sense of community.
Dont’s
Don't Choose an Art Therapist Without a Proven Track Record
Selecting an art therapist who lacks experience may lead to unstructured sessions that do not address your individual needs or contribute to your healing process. Look for professionals with positive testimonials indicating a successful therapeutic background.
Don't Ignore the Importance of Comfort in Sessions
A comfortable and welcoming environment is crucial for effective therapy. Avoid therapists who do not prioritize creating a safe space, as this can hinder your ability to express yourself and make meaningful progress.
Don't Settle for Generic Approaches
Therapeutic progress relies on personalized methods that cater to your individual circumstances and goals. Be wary of therapists who use a one-size-fits-all approach, as this may not facilitate the depth of insight or healing you seek.
Don't Overlook the Significance of Professionalism
An unprofessional demeanor can create doubts and inhibit trust in the therapeutic relationship. Look for therapists who demonstrate competence, genuine care, and structured sessions to ensure a productive healing experience.
