Nofar

Barcelona on Jan 2026

I’m working with Patricia y Mercè at MPC to set up and run my freelance autónomo, and also for my taxes. We started in December and began working together in January; I sent them the documents, and I’m already freelancing. After the first meeting, most of our communication has been via WhatsApp, which works perfectly for me. Their website mentioned that they offer service in English, but our meetings were in Spanish. This wasn’t a problem for me, while it was a bit challenging at times, my partner, who is Spanish, joined the meetings, which helped. In the end, it all worked out smoothly, and I appreciate how accommodating they were. It was more a minor difference between what was advertised and the reality, but certainly not an issue for me. They are very accessible, always answer my questions quickly, and overall, I feel I got a very good price compared to other services I looked into.

Maria

Sydney / Singapore on Jul 2026

I first hired Susana when I returned from Singapore to Spain, and she helped me with my applications for the tax benefit. She knows what she is doing. Since then, I have been using her for all my tax matters in Spain, and also when I bought a house, she helped me with that tax side too. I can trust her; she is always very helpful, replies very fast even with the time difference, and the price feels fair, not crazy expensive.

Alexander

Valencia on Jul 2026

I worked with Álvaro for about a year after I came to Spain from the United States. He helped me with my quarterly taxes and some issues because I was registered as self employed, and he also had a lot of knowledge about taxes and how it worked in the United States as well. My business is very simple, so I would send him a message and he would send me a quick reply, and he explained everything. I did think the service was a bit expensive, but it felt reasonable for how specialized it was.

Frequently Asked Questions

What expats want to know before hiring tax consultants in Barcelona.

Are there English-speaking tax consultants in Barcelona?
Yes, and more do as the expat community grows. The hard part is knowing who is reliable before you book, so every one we list is reviewed by other expats who have actually used them.
What should I check before hiring tax consultants in Barcelona?
Read recent reviews, be clear about exactly what you need, and agree the scope and an estimate in writing before any work starts. For anything regulated, check they hold the right credentials for the job.
Should my accountant be officially certified in Barcelona?
For official accounting, yes. In Spain, use a qualified asesor fiscal or gestoria you can verify. Ask about their credentials before handing over your books.
What should I avoid when hiring tax consultants in Barcelona?
Avoid paying the full amount up front (a deposit can be fair), anyone who will not give a clear quote, and unusually cheap prices that get padded with extras later. And never use someone who cannot show the right certification.
How do I explain what I need if my Spanish is limited?
A photo, a short video or a written list does most of the talking, and the professionals we list are used to international clients. Booking an English-speaking one takes the stress out of it entirely.
How do you say tax consultants in Spanish?
In Spanish, tax consultants are usually called asesores fiscales. That is the word to search for or to ask a neighbour, though many professionals here are used to the English term too.
How do I find tax consultants I can trust in Barcelona?
Check the reviews and any credentials before you book. On Locallista the reviews are phone-verified and the ranking is based on real expat experience, not who paid the most.

Dos and Don’ts as an expat

Key dos and don’ts for selecting the right tax consultant for your needs

Do’s
Do Seek Proactive Communication
Find tax consultants who are known for their proactive communication. Regular updates and timely responses are key to navigating tax issues effectively. Look for providers who prioritize keeping clients informed and address concerns swiftly, ensuring a seamless experience.
Do Look for Personalized Service
Select consultants who offer personalized service tailored to your specific needs. A tax consultant who takes the time to understand your situation can provide valuable, customized advice, making the complex tax landscape easier to navigate and ensuring you feel supported.
Do Evaluate Expertise in Tax Strategies
Choose tax consultants who demonstrate a strong understanding of tax-saving strategies. Professionals who proactively suggest ways to optimize your tax situation can provide immense value and assurance that your financial matters are being handled with expertise.
Do Check for Positive Client Feedback
Look for consultants with consistently positive reviews from past clients. Feedback highlighting their knowledge, professionalism, and attentiveness can indicate a reliable provider who can handle your tax needs effectively and offer peace of mind during the process.
Dont’s
Don't Ignore Communication Responsiveness
Avoid service providers known for delayed responses. Timely communication is essential for effective tax consulting, as delays can lead to misunderstandings or missed deadlines, ultimately affecting your financial situation.
Don't Underestimate the Importance of Knowledge
Selecting a consultant without a proven understanding of tax laws and regulations can result in poor advice or costly mistakes. Ensure your chosen professional is well-versed in the latest tax legislation and practices.
Don't Choose Based Solely on Initial Impressions
Initial enthusiasm can be misleading. Investigate client feedback regarding long-term service quality and consistency, as first interactions may not reflect the ongoing level of support you will receive.
Don't Neglect Service Options Beyond Tax Preparation
Be cautious of consultants who do not offer comprehensive services such as ongoing advice and support for future tax planning. Roles that extend beyond tax preparation can be crucial for effective financial management.
