I needed help to open the door. He told me the time, arrived on time, and opened it very quick and very clean - no damage, no surprises. People told me to watch out because they usually break everything or try to lie, but this was really right, very professional and helpful, very trustful. The price was cheaper than I expected, and I can recommend him.

We forgot the keys, and around 2 a.m. the only way to solve the problem was to call Wissam. He came very fast, told us our door was a high security door, and opened it in about 15 minutes in a very professional way. Communication was very fluid, he wasn’t noisy and was respectful with the neighbors, and I gave him 100 euros because he deserved it.

I got locked out because my door has no handle outside and the key was left in the lock, so you can’t open it with another key. A friend gave me the contact and he came in about 25 minutes on a Friday night with his briefcase, very nice and smiling, really professional, opened the door and that was it. The price felt not too bad, honestly fair, and later I checked a bit and it seemed fine compared to others. He speaks English well, communication was easy, I even offered him a drink after, and I kept his number for other things.
Frequently Asked Questions
How quickly can a locksmith arrive in my area?
In most cities, emergency locksmiths can arrive within 20, 60 minutes, though peak traffic, bad weather, or night-time calls can extend this. When you book, ask for a realistic ETA, whether they’re truly local, and if there’s an out‑of‑hours surcharge so you can plan accordingly.
Will a locksmith need to drill my door to get me back in?
Professional locksmiths try non‑destructive entry first, such as picking or bypassing the mechanism, to protect your door and frame. Drilling is a last resort for high‑security cylinders, damaged locks, or when keys have broken inside; if it’s required, request a clear explanation and itemised costs before they proceed.
How much does a locksmith cost, and what affects the price?
Costs vary by city, time of day, lock type, and complexity, typically including a call‑out fee plus labour and parts. Emergency nights or weekends usually cost more. Prices are set by individual locksmiths, so request an itemised quote in advance and pay the provider directly using your preferred method.
What proof will I need for a locksmith to open my home?
Expect to show photo ID and proof you live there, such as a tenancy agreement, utility bill, or written permission from the owner or agent. For short‑lets or serviced apartments, contact the property manager first so the locksmith can verify access rights and avoid any dispute.
How can I tell if a locksmith is reputable and well‑vetted?
Check independent reviews, recent ratings, and evidence of consistent service quality, and ask for a written, itemised estimate before work begins. Reputable locksmiths provide identification, clear terms, and aftercare or warranties where appropriate. You can also ask for references and confirm they can communicate clearly in your preferred language.
Can locksmiths communicate in English and other languages?
Many locksmiths in expat‑friendly areas speak English and often other languages; it’s best to confirm this when you enquire. To avoid misunderstandings, send photos or videos of your door and lock, describe the problem clearly, and ask for written confirmation of prices and what the visit includes.
Should I rekey or change my locks when I move into a new place?
Rekeying changes the keys that operate your existing lock and is often quicker and more cost‑effective after a move. Full replacement is better if the lock is damaged, low‑security, or you want features like anti‑snap cylinders. In rentals, always check permission requirements with your landlord or building manager.
Do locksmiths install smart locks and access systems?
Many locksmiths supply and fit smart locks, keypads, and access systems, and can advise on compatibility with your door, building rules, and tenancy. Ask about power options, emergency overrides, and how physical keys work alongside apps. Ensure you retain administrator access when you move out or change tenants.
Are locksmith services covered by home or renters’ insurance?
Some home and renters’ insurance policies cover locksmith call‑outs, lost keys, or damage from forced entry, but cover and excess vary widely. Check your policy wording before booking, and keep an itemised invoice with tax details and photos of the issue to support any claim you make.
What should I prepare before calling a locksmith?
Share your exact location, door material, lock brand if known, and whether it’s an emergency, plus clear photos for a quick assessment. Confirm availability, ETA, and accepted payment methods, and request an itemised estimate including parts, labour, and any out‑of‑hours fees to avoid surprises.

Dos and Don’ts as an expat
Critical dos and don’ts for selecting a reliable locksmith
Do’s
Do Look for Prompt Response Times
Select a locksmith known for quick response times, especially in emergencies. Timely arrivals can significantly reduce stress during lockout situations and ensure you're not waiting for long periods.
Do Prioritize Communication Skills
Opt for a locksmith who demonstrates excellent communication skills. A professional who speaks your language fluently can provide clear explanations of services and address any concerns effectively.
Do Check for Professionalism and Respect
Choose a locksmith who is consistently described as professional and respectful. Such attributes are key indicators of reliable service, making the entire process smoother and more pleasant for the customer.
Do Inquire About Tools and Equipment
Ensure your locksmith arrives with all necessary tools for the job. A well-equipped technician can handle unexpected complications without delays, guaranteeing efficient and quality service.
Dont’s
Don't Ignore Communication Skills
Choosing a locksmith who lacks clear communication skills can lead to misunderstandings about the services being provided, potentially resulting in dissatisfaction or additional costs. Ensure your locksmith is fluent in your preferred language and can clearly explain their processes.
Don't Wait for Unresponsive Providers
Engaging a locksmith who does not respond promptly can lead to costly delays in emergencies. If a locksmith does not answer your call or seems unresponsive, consider looking for another provider with a proven track record of timely communication and assistance.
Don't Overlook Customer Recommendations
Failing to consider referrals or customer reviews can lead to hiring a locksmith with a poor reputation. Always seek recommendations from friends or look for positive feedback online to ensure you're choosing a trustworthy and competent locksmith service.
Don't Choose Based on Price Alone
Focusing solely on low prices can result in hiring a locksmith who might compromise on quality and professionalism, leading to poor service or additional costs down the line. Instead, evaluate the overall value, including responsiveness and expertise before making a selection.
