I went to a dental spa clinic for cleaning, a diagnosis, and about six repairs for caries, plus a small cosmetic tooth repair. They were very helpful and polite, kept me comfortable and calm, and even put on Netflix during the procedure so I could focus somewhere else. They really made sure I had no pain and were not scared to use more anesthesia if needed, which I appreciated a lot. It was a little bit too expensive but I wanted help immediately so I don't know if that was why, but after doing some research it seemed to me that the higher price was related to other services and not just the service itself, which is fine, but from my perspective they are a little bit overpriced. Overall I’m very happy and satisfied.

I am very satisfied with Moritz as my dentist in Barcelona. He communicates well and did the work properly. There was a minor delay, but the price felt reasonable and was good value. I've already recommended him to my friends and colleagues.

Everything was great and very fast from the first appointment to the first visit. I had a removal yesterday and I’m still in the healing process with a little bit of pain, but they explained the procedure, gave me the medicines and an after-surgery checklist, and everything felt well done. I went on a Sunday and there were a lot of people and emergencies, so I waited around 35-40 minutes, and I also needed a 3D scan because my nerves were close to the teeth, with a follow up likely. The clinic is really clean and organized, the staff are really good, and the price felt normal for this kind of service.
Frequently Asked Questions
How can expats find an English-speaking dentist in Barcelona?
Many private clinics in Barcelona advertise English-speaking dentists and staff. Use searches with relevant keywords and check reviews; ask clinics directly about languages. Look for websites showing team bios and WhatsApp contact to confirm availability and communication before booking. Check opening hours and emergency support.
How much do dental treatments cost in Barcelona?
Prices vary by clinic and complexity. Typical private fees: check-up and clean 50, 90€, filling 60, 150€, root canal 150, 350€, crown 300, 600€, whitening 200, 400€, implants 900, 1,500€ plus 600, 1,000€ for the crown. Dentists set their own prices, and you pay them directly. Ask for a written estimate before treatment.
How can I verify a dentist’s quality and credentials in Barcelona?
Check the dentist is registered with the Col·legi Oficial d’Odontòlegs i Estomatòlegs de Catalunya (COEC) and review independent patient feedback. Look for clear treatment plans, written estimates, modern equipment, and strict hygiene protocols. Prioritise providers who communicate transparently in your language and offer follow-up care.
Do Barcelona dentists accept international insurance?
Many private clinics will give detailed invoices for you to claim back from international insurers, and some may offer direct billing with major providers. Always confirm coverage, excesses, and pre‑authorisation requirements in advance. Bring your policy details and ID to your appointment.
What should I do in a dental emergency in Barcelona?
Call a local clinic and request a same‑day emergency appointment; many offer extended hours or on‑call dentists. For severe trauma, uncontrolled bleeding, or facial swelling, call 112 or go to hospital A&E. Expect additional out‑of‑hours fees and bring ID and any medical information.
Are cosmetic dental treatments like Invisalign or veneers common in Barcelona?
Yes, Barcelona hosts numerous clinics offering Invisalign, teeth whitening, veneers, and smile makeovers. Ask about brand options, before‑and‑after cases, digital smile design, and lab partnerships. Always request a written plan detailing timelines, maintenance, and total costs before starting treatment. Discuss alternatives, too.
Is sedation dentistry available for anxious patients in Barcelona?
Many clinics provide anxiety‑management options such as oral sedation, nitrous oxide, or IV sedation under supervision. A medical assessment and informed consent are required, and sedation adds to overall costs and appointment time. Discuss risks, recovery, and escort requirements before booking.
How does paediatric dentistry work for expat families in Barcelona?
Paediatric dentists in Barcelona offer child‑friendly care, including preventive check‑ups, sealants, and interceptive orthodontics, with many speaking English. Public programmes cover limited treatments for children; most families use private clinics for comprehensive care. Check waiting times, behaviour management approaches, and parental presence policies.
What documents should I bring to my first dental appointment?
Bring your passport or ID, any previous dental records or X‑rays, a list of medications and allergies, and your insurance details if applicable. For private clinics, an NIE or public health card is not usually required to book or receive treatment.
How far in advance should I book, and can I use WhatsApp to communicate?
For routine care, book 3, 7 days ahead; for popular specialists, allow 1, 3 weeks. Many clinics confirm appointments and share estimates via WhatsApp or email, and some open on Saturdays. For emergencies, phone first and request a same‑day slot. Walk‑ins are less common.
Selecting the right dentist is crucial for maintaining your oral health and ensuring a positive experience during your visits. A skilled practitioner will not only address your dental needs but will also foster an environment of trust and communication. By adhering to these dos and don’ts, you set the stage for a rewarding relationship with a dentist who truly prioritizes your comfort and well-being. Remember, your dental care should be as much about the experience as it is about the treatment, so choose wisely!
Dos and Don’ts as an expat
Key dos and don’ts for selecting the ideal dentist for your needs
Do’s
Do Prioritize Cleanliness and Organization
Choose a dental clinic that maintains a high standard of cleanliness and organization. A well-kept environment not only ensures safety but also enhances your comfort during visits.
Do Look for Dentists Who Communicate Clearly
Select a dentist who takes the time to explain procedures and treatments in detail, making you feel informed and at ease. Clear communication can alleviate anxiety and improve your overall experience.
Do Seek Out Personal Touch and Availability
Consider dentists who are accessible and willing to provide their contact information for quick communication. Personal touch and responsiveness, especially through messaging apps, can significantly improve your dental care experience.
Do Check for Professional Staff and Comfort Level
Opt for dental clinics where the staff is friendly and accommodating. A welcoming atmosphere with attentive professionals who prioritize your comfort can make a substantial difference in your dental visits.
Dont’s
Don't Ignore Cleanliness and Organization
Choosing a dentist with a poorly managed office can lead to concerns about hygiene and safety. Always ensure that the clinic is clean and well-organized, as this reflects the quality of care you can expect during your visits.
Don't Overlook Communication Skills
A lack of clear communication can result in misunderstandings about procedures and treatment plans. Ensure your dentist is willing to explain treatments in a way you understand, addressing any concerns and making you feel comfortable throughout the process.
Don't Settle for Rushed or Impersonal Care
If a dentist seems to rush through visits without adequately addressing your questions or concerns, it could indicate a lack of personalized care. Look for practitioners who take the time to engage with you and explain your treatment thoroughly.
Don't Choose a Dentist Without Flexible Appointment Options
Sticking with a dentist who offers limited appointment scheduling can be frustrating, especially when conflicts arise. Seek providers who allow easy rescheduling and are responsive to your availability, ensuring a smoother healthcare experience.
