I used the psychology service for my daughter, and what we like is the family approach, plus they combine functional neurology with things like biofeedback, which helped accelerate her progress. The environment is comfortable and very professional, the therapy is personalized, and being able to do it in English with someone trained in the UK was a big advantage. Scheduling was easy and flexible, we got clear protocols to do at home, and after less than a year she finished and was discharged. Price value is very good.

I have my whole family in therapy here - I do psychological therapy, my son does speech and occupational therapy, and my daughter has psychological therapy and is starting pedagogical therapy to learn how to learn. They have an amazing team, very polite and very friendly, smart people with good results; my daughter went from two sessions per week to one because she improved a lot, and I also get parental guidance to handle her situation. The place is next to the train station, easy even from Barcelona, and my son goes in happy and leaves happy. Price feels fair and convenient, not too expensive, and I highly recommend Corien and the team.

I took my autistic daughter, she is six now, to this center starting with diagnostics when she wasn’t talking by around two and a half, and we’ve been going about three and a half years. They did the diagnostic tests and then started occupational therapy, neurofeedback and other things, first one day a week and now four days a week with one day off, no more kindergarten. I love that they have a multidisciplinary team and that we are totally informed every day through their portal with short notes and photos, and we also have meetings twice a year with the main teachers and a coordinator to set goals and review progress, and before they also met with her kindergarten teachers. We are absolutely happy and I think her progress over the last two years relies a lot on the work they do.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does private speech therapy cost in Barcelona?
Typical costs per 45, 60 minutes: €40, 70 for general therapy. Specialist voice, stammering, or adult neuro cases may be €60, 90; initial assessment €70, 150. Prices are set by each provider, vary by experience and location, and you pay them directly; directories usually don’t publish rates.
Do I need a referral to see a speech and language therapist in Barcelona?
For private speech therapy in Barcelona, you don’t need a GP referral; you can book directly. A paediatrician, neurologist, or ENT report can be helpful for background and insurance reimbursement. For public services, referrals and waiting lists through your CAP (primary care) are common.
Can I find English-speaking or bilingual speech therapists in Barcelona?
Yes, many speech and language therapists in Barcelona offer therapy in English, Spanish, and Catalan, with some providing other languages. For bilingual children and adults, choose a therapist experienced in multilingual assessment and intervention, able to plan goals across languages and advise on home language use.
How does speech therapy for bilingual children differ from monolingual approaches?
Bilingual assessments measure skills in both languages and consider typical multilingual development to avoid mislabelling normal variation as delay. Treatment often supports the stronger language first, targets shared skills, and includes family strategies to maintain both languages without “dropping” the home language.
What qualifications and vetting should I look for in Barcelona?
In Spain, look for a degree in Logopedia or Speech and Language Therapy, supervised clinical experience, and evidence-based practice. Check membership of the regional professional college (e.g., Col·legi/Colegio de Logopedas), verified reviews, and whether they provide clear goals, progress notes, and safeguarding policies.
Are online or home-visit speech therapy sessions available in Barcelona?
Many therapists offer teletherapy via secure video, useful for busy expats or frequent travellers. Home or school visits are also common, especially for children, though providers may charge travel time or higher rates; confirm availability by district and building access.
How long are sessions and when will I see progress?
Standard sessions run 45, 60 minutes, typically once or twice weekly, with home practice between visits. Initial gains may appear in 4, 8 weeks, but timelines vary by diagnosis, severity, consistency of practice, and family involvement; ask for a written plan with review points.
Is speech therapy covered by public healthcare or private insurance?
Public coverage in Catalonia is limited and prioritised medical cases, with waiting lists. Some private insurance plans reimburse sessions for specific conditions or after a medical referral, but many exclude routine speech therapy; check your policy carefully and obtain invoices directly from the provider.
Can therapists collaborate with schools and provide reports?
Yes. Many Barcelona speech therapists liaise with teachers, SENCOs, and school counsellors, deliver school-based sessions, and write reports for Individual Education Plans or accommodations. Ask about bilingual reports, turnaround times, and any additional fees for meetings or classroom observations required.
What conditions do speech therapists in Barcelona commonly treat?
Therapists commonly treat speech sound disorders, language delays, stammering, voice disorders, social communication challenges (including autism), apraxia, feeding and swallowing difficulties, and post-stroke aphasia. Many also offer accent modification and public speaking coaching for professionals needing clearer English or Spanish communication.

Dos and Don’ts as an expat
Smart choices: dos and don’ts when selecting a speech therapist for your child
Do’s
Do Prioritize a Welcoming Environment
Look for a therapy center that emphasizes a welcoming and supportive atmosphere for families. A comfortable environment can significantly impact your child's willingness to engage and improve their speech skills.
Do Seek Long-Term Commitment from Therapists
Select a therapy provider that fosters long-term relationships between therapists and clients. Consistency over time can lead to better outcomes and remarkable improvements in your child's communication abilities.
Do Evaluate Convenient Locations
Consider the location of the therapy center to ensure it is easily accessible for regular visits. A convenient location can reduce stress and make it easier for your family to attend appointments consistently.
Do Research the Team's Qualifications
Ensure that the therapists have strong qualifications and expertise in speech therapy. A knowledgeable and skilled team can provide effective support tailored to your child’s specific needs.
Dont’s
Don't Ignore the Importance of Therapist Compatibility
Selecting a speech therapist without considering the rapport and compatibility with your child may hinder progress. It's critical to ensure that your child feels comfortable and understood, as this relationship impacts the effectiveness of the therapy.
Don't Skip Researching Credentials and Experience
Failing to verify the credentials and experience of a speech therapist can lead to subpar therapy outcomes. Make sure to check their qualifications and specializations to ensure they are well-equipped to handle your child's specific needs.
Don't Neglect Considering Location and Accessibility
Choosing a therapy center that is difficult to access can create unnecessary barriers to attending sessions consistently. Look for a provider that is conveniently located to ensure regular attendance and maintain the momentum of therapy.
Don't Overlook Reviews and Testimonials
Disregarding feedback from previous clients can lead to poor choices in selecting a therapist. Take the time to read reviews and testimonials to gauge the overall satisfaction and effectiveness of a provider before making a commitment.
