I've had an amazing experience with my Spanish lessons in Barcelona. Edit Viktoria is very professional, reliable, and highly responsive. She tailored the specific Spanish teacher, lesson plans, and class scheduling to fit my needs. The pricing is fair and transparent, with the flexibility to schedule lessons a month in advance. I am very impressed and will continue with my lessons until I reach fluency. Thank you, Edit!

Anabel

I met Brett 2-3 years ago for private English classes, one hour a day, about 5 hours per week, sometimes at my home, sometimes online, sometimes with a coffee. He is very professional, empathetic, and very punctual, also flexible, and he motivated me when my frustration was high and I wanted to stop. He prepared tailored accent training for my needs - London, American, Edinburgh - and even helped me prepare an interview speaking English with a German accent, with videos, songs, films, grammar, and lots of conversation. The price felt a little bit expensive for me but I understand because the classes were only for me with my objectives, and today I even talked 18 minutes in English and felt like Tarzan.

Barcelona on Sep 2025

I hired Edit Viktoria for private English lessons to prepare for an advanced level language exam. We worked together about one and a half year with online courses - she personalized the thematic and the material for me, was flexible with scheduling, and had a really professional attitude. Communication was easy and smooth, and sometimes she needed a little extra time but she always let me know before. Price felt fair, we had a good connection, and it’s a success story - we made it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do private English lessons cost in Barcelona?
Private English lessons in Barcelona typically range from €20, €50 per hour, depending on the teacher’s experience, specialism (e.g., Business English, IELTS) and whether sessions are online or in person. Rates are set by individual teachers, and you arrange payment with them directly.
What qualifications should an English teacher in Barcelona have?
Many Barcelona English teachers hold CELTA or Trinity CertTESOL and a university degree; for school roles, Qualified Teacher Status can help. Prioritise tutors with strong reviews, clear lesson planning, and experience teaching Spaniards and international professionals, especially if you need Business English, exam preparation, or pronunciation coaching.
Are online or in-person English classes better for expats in Barcelona?
Online classes offer flexible scheduling, lower travel time, and useful tools (recordings, digital whiteboards), while in‑person lessons suit conversation practice, pronunciation drilling, and immersive learning around Barcelona. Many expats choose a blended approach, online during busy weeks and face‑to‑face before presentations, interviews, or exams.
Can I find business English and exam preparation (IELTS/Cambridge) tutors in Barcelona?
Yes, Barcelona has many specialist tutors for Business English, industry‑specific communication, and exam preparation such as IELTS, B2 First and C1 Advanced. Check their track record (results, testimonials), materials used, and whether they offer mock tests, interview practice, or presentation coaching tailored to your sector.
Where do English lessons usually take place in Barcelona?
Lessons commonly happen at your home or office, in coworking spaces, quiet cafés, libraries, a teacher’s studio, or online. Confirm travel zones and any surcharge for on‑site visits, and ensure the location is quiet with reliable Wi‑Fi for productive sessions.
How quickly can I improve my English and how many hours should I study?
Progress depends on your starting level, goals, and consistency, but many learners move up a CEFR sub‑level in 8, 12 weeks with 2, 3 hours of lessons weekly plus targeted self‑study. Intensive courses or daily practice can accelerate results, especially for deadlines like job interviews or exam dates.
Do English tutors in Barcelona offer trial lessons or level assessments?
Many English tutors offer a short consultation or a discounted trial to assess your level, goals, and learning style. Use this session to agree objectives, sample teaching methods, and discuss materials, scheduling, and homework expectations before committing to a package.
How are English teachers in Barcelona vetted and reviewed for quality?
In Barcelona, quality is best judged through consistent ratings, detailed student reviews, and proven experience with expats. Ask for references, sample lesson plans, and a clear learning pathway, and favour teachers who communicate promptly, arrive on time, and provide constructive feedback after each lesson.
Do English tutors in Barcelona teach children as well as adults?
Yes, many English tutors teach both adults and children, often using different methods such as phonics, games, and story‑based learning for younger learners. Confirm experience with your child’s age group, materials aligned to Cambridge Young Learners if needed, and how progress will be communicated to parents.
What is a typical cancellation or rescheduling policy for private English lessons in Barcelona?
Policies vary, but a 24‑hour cancellation window is common for private English lessons in Barcelona; late cancellations may incur a full charge. Confirm terms in writing, covering rescheduling, holidays, and package expiry, so expectations are clear before you begin. Ask about grace periods and how to notify your tutor (WhatsApp, email, or phone).

Dont’s
Don't Ignore Personalization in Learning
Choosing an English teacher who doesn't tailor lessons to your specific needs can hinder your progress. Look for instructors who customize their approach based on your goals, interests, and current skill level to ensure an engaging and efficient learning experience.

Working with an English teacher who is consistently late or unresponsive can disrupt your learning. Make sure to select teachers with a track record of being punctual and dependable to ensure that you receive the full benefit of your scheduled lessons.
Don't Overlook the Importance of Feedback
Engaging with a teacher who doesn't provide constructive feedback can impede your growth. Look for teachers who emphasize ongoing evaluation and corrections during lessons, as this will help you identify and rectify mistakes in real-time.
Don't Settle for Inflexible Teaching Methods
