Difficult things feel extremely easy and simple with Ingrid, and in our lessons she gets through a lot in the time that we have. My child is super happy to be left alone with her, or if I'm in the room, which isn't the case with every teacher, and with Ingrid she's super comfortable. She's always on time - usually early - and communication is excellent. The price feels reasonable to me.

She is an excellent professional and lives music with passion. Since my daughter switched from another school to lessons with Ingrid, she has improved a lot - not only in technique but in interpretation, expression, intensity, and really feeling the piece. Classes are 1 hour at her studio with a grand piano in a spacious, acoustically equipped room, and she even prepares and manages everything for the Royal Academy exam so I just register and later get the certificate. She is ultra punctual with British punctuality, treats kids and adults with great sensitivity, and for me the price feels cheap for the quality and impact of the classes.

I’ve had Ingrid teaching my two kids piano since around 2018, and they also do ABRSM theory. They actually prefer doing other things than playing the piano, but she makes the classes very interesting, they appreciate her, and they have learned a lot. For the last couple of years Ingrid does the piano lessons and her sister handles the theory, and they have passed their ABRSM exams. Communication is easy on WhatsApp and the price feels fair to me.

Dos and Don’ts as an expat

Key dos and don’ts for finding the perfect piano teacher

Do’s
Do Seek Personalized Teaching Approaches
Look for piano teachers who tailor their lessons to fit your personal interests and skill levels. Customized teaching not only enhances learning but also keeps students engaged and motivated to practice and improve.
Do Consider the Teacher's Patience and Approachability
Select a piano instructor who demonstrates patience and fosters a comfortable learning environment. A supportive teacher can make lessons enjoyable and help students develop confidence in their musical abilities.
Do Check for Flexibility in Lesson Structure
Ensure that the piano teacher is open to varying lesson lengths and topics based on your preferences or those of your child. This flexibility can enhance the learning experience and encourage a fun and fulfilling approach to music.
Do Look for Strong Communication Skills
Choose teachers who can effectively communicate with students in a clear manner. An instructor who articulates feedback well and engages with students in an encouraging way can significantly boost learning and retention.
Dont’s
Don't Hire a Teacher Without Experience in Personalized Instruction
Choosing a piano teacher who does not prioritize individualized teaching approaches can lead to frustrating experiences. Look for instructors who know how to tailor lessons to your or your child's musical preferences, ensuring that learning feels engaging and enjoyable.
Don't Ignore Reviews About Punctuality and Reliability
Teachers who struggle with punctuality can disrupt your learning schedule and impact consistency in lessons. Ensure you select a teacher with a strong track record of reliability to create a positive learning environment and minimize disruptions.
Don't Select a Teacher Who Lacks Patience
A piano teacher without patience may not effectively support students, especially beginners or those returning after a long break. It's essential to choose an instructor who takes the time to ensure you or your child feels comfortable and progresses at a suitable pace.
Don't Overlook the Importance of Communication Skills
Teachers who are not effective communicators can create a barrier to understanding key musical concepts. Ensure that the instructor can clearly explain techniques and provide constructive feedback to foster a better learning experience.
