I enrolled my child in this city nursery and it was great - we had really good follow-up and the whole teaching team was at their best. Damaris was my child’s teacher and she was extraordinary, a real stroke of luck for us, and the day ran smoothly from 8:30 to 5 with activities and care all day. I’m not going to talk about the infrastructures, but I will say the meals were varied and honestly that was the dark part - the year they switched to a company catering I didn’t like it at all. The price has increased since then and I know a lot of people are less happy, but overall we were very happy.

I went with friends, we actually went twice, and it was very fun for a small group. We tried different experiences - one with a little bit of fear, one of the outdoor spaces of the sea, and another like a medieval castle - and it was great because you can move around the room and see the others for team building. The place was clean and well maintained, with a ramp and wide doors, and Xavi, the head of the team, taught us a lot - it’s the details that make the experience. Price felt fair and I would recommend it and go back.

I needed a kindergarten when we moved here and this was perfect: each class has two teachers, one in English and one in Catalan. We got feedback through WhatsApp every midday back then, now it’s in another app, and every afternoon we could talk to the teacher for 5 minutes, so communication felt really good. They did monthly projects, the 2-3 years old kids went to the library every month to pick up books and share them, and there were lots of outings in the last year. They even helped us with baby-led weaning, they are very professional, and the price felt fair for having two teachers per class.
Frequently Asked Questions
How can expats find an English-speaking kids’ party planner in a new city?
As an international family, use reputable expat directories, community groups, and provider listings that indicate languages spoken. Shortlist planners who offer English (and your native language if needed), then message them via WhatsApp or phone to assess responsiveness, cultural fit, and their experience with international clients.
How do I know a kids’ party planner is vetted and reliable?
Look for transparent, recent reviews from other families, consistent high ratings, and clear service descriptions. Ask for references, sample itineraries, and confirmation of supplier relationships and safety policies for entertainers and equipment. A professional will gladly share proof of experience and explain how they handle incidents or delays.
What should I expect to pay for a children’s birthday party?
Costs vary by city, season, and scope, entertainer-only parties are typically cheaper than full-service themed events with venue, catering, and photography. Request itemised quotes and compare packages like décor, activities, and duration. Prices are set by each provider, paid directly to them, and are not listed on Locallista.
Can planners accommodate allergies, dietary needs, or cultural preferences?
Yes, experienced planners will source allergy-friendly, vegan, halal, or gluten-free options and manage cross-contamination with caterers. Share all dietary requirements early and ask for labelled menus and supplier details. You can also request culturally appropriate themes, music, and party bags to suit your family’s traditions.
Do I need a permit to host a children’s party in a park or public space?
Many cities require permits, noise limits, or insurance for events in public areas, especially when using inflatables, amplified music, or generators. Check municipal guidelines and book early. A local planner can advise on rules, recommended spots, and weather back-ups to avoid last-minute disruption.
How do I choose the right venue if I’m unfamiliar with the city?
Start with practical criteria: capacity, accessibility, parking, indoor/outdoor options, and proximity to your neighbourhood or transport. Ask planners for shortlists of tried-and-tested venues suited to your child’s age and theme. Request photos, floor plans, and wet-weather alternatives before you commit.
How far in advance should I book a kids’ party planner?
Popular dates fill up 4, 8 weeks ahead, and peak seasons can require more lead time for venues and entertainers. If you’re late to the game, ask about weekday or morning slots and streamlined packages. Many planners can pull off last-minute parties if you’re flexible on theme and location.
What entertainment works best for multilingual or mixed-age groups?
Opt for visual, interactive acts that transcend language, magicians, bubble shows, puppet theatre, science demos, and craft stations. Combine a headline act with open play zones so toddlers and older kids stay engaged. Bilingual entertainers or simple MC scripts help coordinate games and cake-cutting smoothly.
How do planners handle safety, supervision, and equipment standards?
Ask about adult-to-child ratios, first-aid readiness, and how entertainers are screened. For inflatables or soft play, confirm set-up procedures, anchoring, and hygiene between events. A reliable planner will brief you on supervision responsibilities, emergency contacts, and any venue rules before the party starts.
What’s usually included in a kids’ party package?
Packages commonly bundle planning, themed décor, an entertainer or activity, basic sound, and a set duration, with add-ons like catering, cake, photography, and party bags. Clarify arrival times, clean-up, staffing, and what’s excluded (e.g., permits, transport, or power). Always get inclusions in writing.

Dos and Don’ts as an expat
Smart choices: dos and don’ts for planning unforgettable kids' birthdays
Do’s
Do Choose Caterers Who Provide Healthy Options
Select a catering service that specializes in healthy, appealing food options for children. Look for providers who focus on incorporating fresh, locally sourced ingredients and can accommodate dietary restrictions, ensuring a nutritious experience for the kids.
Do Look for Exceptional Service and Attention to Detail
Opt for service providers who are known for their exceptional attention to detail and organization. Ensure they can handle logistics such as setup, decoration, and cleanup efficiently, allowing you to focus on enjoying the event without added stress.
Do Seek Recommendations for Engaging Activities
Select experiences that offer engaging and creative activities for children, enhancing their enjoyment during the event. Look for reviews mentioning engaging staff and innovative activities that spark kids' interest and keep them entertained.
Do Consider the Overall Atmosphere and Experience
Choose venues that provide a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere for both children and parents. A pleasant environment can make a significant difference in the overall enjoyment, creating memorable moments for your kids’ birthday celebrations.
Dont’s
Don't Neglect Menu Variety and Dietary Needs
When hiring a caterer for kids' birthdays, ensure they offer a diverse menu that caters to various dietary restrictions. Lack of options can be disappointing, especially if they do not accommodate allergies or specific preferences, leaving children unsatisfied.
Don't Settle for Unprofessional Setup and Cleanup
Avoid providers who do not guarantee timely setup and cleanup. An unorganized approach can dampen the party atmosphere and add unnecessary stress to your event, making it essential to choose those known for their efficiency and professionalism throughout the process.
Don't Ignore Presentation and Engagement
Select service providers that prioritize engaging and visually appealing presentations, especially for kids. A lack of creativity in decor or food can detract from the overall experience. Make sure to confirm that they have a flair for making events fun and colorful.
Don't Overlook the Importance of Feedback on Popularity of Foods
Pay attention to reviews regarding food preferences among children. Choosing foods that are overly healthy may lead to less enthusiasm from kids, which can impact their joy at the party. Ensure your caterer balances nutritious options with kid-friendly flavors.
