I found Annemarie through an expat community on Facebook and booked her styling services. We spent a couple of hours together and she is excellent, very professional, and she knows what she is doing. I wanted advice on casual look, more dressy look, and corporate look, and she also styled me with jewelry and different ways to wear my hair. She made me feel very relaxed and it was a lot of fun.

I met Annemarie in Singapore via Vaya and went with my two daughters for a color analysis. She was very professional, showed us the best colors to wear, what kind of makeup suits us, and the best hair color, took the right pictures, and later sent a full written report. It was in a separate room with all the color palettes and fabric swatches and a big mirror, and she answered all my questions so it was clear she is well educated and experienced. I’m still making sure I wear the right colors and you can see a big difference, and the price felt fair for us as a group.

I used Annemarie in Singapore after a good friend recommended her, and I absolutely loved it. She had a room set up with natural light, a mirror, a proper chair and all the fabric samples she tested under my face, talked through makeup and complexion, listened to what I usually wear and then wrote out a document I still use; whenever I follow the guidelines people comment on what I’m wearing, so it’s working. She’s very friendly, happy, doesn’t look at the watch, sent the address upfront, told me not to wear makeup, and later answered my WhatsApp questions; I even took 4 or 5 friends for a group and had tea with them. Price felt okay and well worth it, and I liked that she can offer shopping help if you want but she wasn’t pushing it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I choose an English-speaking personal stylist as an expat in a new city?
Prioritise stylists with proven experience working with expats and strong English communication. Review before-and-after portfolios, client testimonials, and their process for discovery, fittings, and follow‑up. Ensure they provide clear proposals, timelines, and what’s included, so expectations and outcomes are aligned from the start.
What services do personal stylists typically offer?
Common services include wardrobe edits, personal shopping, capsule wardrobe planning, colour analysis, and special-occasion styling. Many also offer virtual styling, seasonal refreshes, and lookbooks with shoppable links. Choose a package that fits your goals, whether that’s a full reboot or targeted outfit updates.
How much does a personal stylist usually cost?
Prices vary by city, experience, and scope. As a guide, consultations may be complimentary or £50, £150, wardrobe edits £150, £400 for a half day, and personal shopping £40, £120 per hour (or €45, €140). All rates are set by each stylist and are arranged and paid directly with them.
Do stylists offer virtual consultations before I relocate?
Yes, many English-speaking stylists provide video consultations, digital wardrobe audits, and pre-arrival shopping lists. Virtual styling helps you plan a capsule wardrobe and prioritise gaps before you land, saving time and minimising costly mistakes when navigating a new city’s shops and brands.
Can a stylist help with local sizing, brands, and sustainable choices?
A good personal stylist understands local size conversions, fit differences, and reputable brands. They can recommend sustainable and ethical options, tailor-friendly labels, and budget-friendly alternatives. Expect guidance on where to shop, what to avoid, and how to build outfits that suit your lifestyle and climate.
What should I expect from the styling process and timings?
Typically, there’s a discovery call, a 2, 4 hour wardrobe edit, and a 2, 3 hour shopping session or virtual alternatives. Deliverables often include a curated lookbook, outfit formulas, and a list of recommended items or tailors. Timelines vary by availability, season, and the scope of work.
How can I vet the quality of a stylist before booking?
Check verified reviews, case studies, and before‑and‑after images that reflect your goals. Ask for a transparent scope, cancellation policy, and what outcomes are guaranteed. References from past clients and clear communication in English are strong indicators of professionalism and reliability.
How should I prepare for my first styling session?
Define your goals, budget, dress codes, and any deadlines like weddings or interviews. Share measurements, photos of outfits you love and dislike, and list wardrobe pain points. For wardrobe edits, have clothes clean and accessible, and be ready to try items on for fit assessment.
Are there stylists for men, plus-size, petite, modest wear, or corporate dress?
Yes. Many stylists specialise in men’s styling, plus-size, petite, modest fashion, maternity, or strict corporate dress codes. Review their portfolio for clients similar to you, and ask about their experience with your specific needs to ensure the best fit and results.
How do communication and payments usually work with stylists?
You typically contact stylists directly via phone, email, or messaging apps to discuss availability and scope. Payments, deposits, and cancellations are handled directly with the stylist according to their terms. Always confirm deliverables, fees, and timelines in writing before starting.

Dos and Don’ts as an expat

Smart choices: dos and don’ts for finding the ideal stylist for your unique look

Do’s
Do Seek Personalized Style Guidance
Look for stylists who offer tailored consultations that take into account your unique preferences, body type, skin tone, and lifestyle. Personalized advice can ensure that your wardrobe reflects your individual style and enhances your confidence.
Do Consider Their Approach to Wardrobe Organization
Choose a stylist who emphasizes not just aesthetics but also organization and practicality in your wardrobe. Services that help optimize your closet can streamline your daily routine and make outfit selection easier, leading to a more satisfying wardrobe.
Do Inquire About Their Communication Methods
Ensure the stylist provides ample support and communicates effectively through preferred channels, whether in-person or online. A stylist who is responsive and available for consultations can enhance your experience and make the process smoother.
Do Look for Positive Client Feedback
Research stylists by reading client testimonials that highlight successful experiences and outcomes. Reviews that mention transformational results and positive impacts on self-esteem can guide you to choose a service provider who delivers meaningful value.
Dont’s
Don't Rely on Surface-Level Consultations
Choosing a stylist based solely on their ability to provide quick fixes may lead to disappointments. Look for those who emphasize understanding your personal style deeply, as this can significantly enhance your wardrobe transformation.
Don't Ignore the Importance of Personalized Attention
A stylist who does not take the time to listen to your specific preferences and needs may not provide results that resonate with you. Ensure they have a history of offering personalized, attentive consultations to truly cater to your style and body type.
Don't Underestimate Communication During the Process
Opt for a stylist known for clear and consistent communication, especially if you're working remotely. Poor communication can lead to confusion and unsatisfactory outcomes, hindering your ability to express your style preferences effectively.
Don't Accept Lack of Accountability
Hiring a stylist who does not set clear expectations or follow through on commitments can result in frustration and wasted investment. Ensure your chosen professional values accountability and is committed to meeting agreed-upon timelines.
