We forgot the keys, and around 2 a.m. the only way to solve the problem was to call Wissam. He came very fast, told us our door was a high security door, and opened it in about 15 minutes in a very professional way. Communication was very fluid, he wasn’t noisy and was respectful with the neighbors, and I gave him 100 euros because he deserved it.

I needed help to open the door. He told me the time, arrived on time, and opened it very quick and very clean - no damage, no surprises. People told me to watch out because they usually break everything or try to lie, but this was really right, very professional and helpful, very trustful. The price was cheaper than I expected, and I can recommend him.

I got locked out because my door has no handle outside and the key was left in the lock, so you can’t open it with another key. A friend gave me the contact and he came in about 25 minutes on a Friday night with his briefcase, very nice and smiling, really professional, opened the door and that was it. The price felt not too bad, honestly fair, and later I checked a bit and it seemed fine compared to others. He speaks English well, communication was easy, I even offered him a drink after, and I kept his number for other things.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I find a reliable door installer when I’ve just moved?
Look for English-speaking installers with verifiable reviews, recent photos, and references from international clients. Ask for an on-site survey, a written, itemised quote, and proof of public liability cover. Confirm who supplies hardware, disposal of the old door, and a clear timetable to avoid surprises.
What should I expect to pay for door installation?
Costs vary by door type (interior, exterior, security or fire-rated), materials, frame condition, glazing, and hardware. Always request an itemised, fixed quote after a survey. Prices are set by the service providers and payments are done directly with the service provider and are not listed on Locallista.
Do I need permission or a permit to replace a door?
Requirements differ by country and building. External doors, changes to communal areas, heritage façades, or fire doors in flats may need building management approval or compliance certificates. Confirm rules with your landlord, homeowners’ association, or local authority, and ensure the installer can provide documentation for compliance where applicable.
Can I get an English-speaking door installer?
Yes. Many installers serve international clients and can communicate in English for surveys, quotes, and aftercare. Ask whether contracts, guarantees, and invoices are available in English and, if needed, whether they can provide multilingual support for neighbours, building managers, or suppliers involved in the installation.
How long does door installation take, and how should I prepare?
A straightforward interior door can often be fitted in a few hours; exterior, security, or custom units may take a full day, plus lead time for ordering. Clear access, protect floors, confirm power availability, and agree in advance who handles painting, hardware fitting, debris removal, and recycling.
Which door types are best for energy efficiency and noise reduction?
For thermal efficiency, look for well-sealed frames, insulated cores, and low-U-value glazing on patio or balcony doors. For soundproofing in flats, solid-core doors with quality seals, drop thresholds, and acoustic-rated frames help significantly. Ask the installer to specify ratings and demonstrate expected performance for your property type.
Are emergency door repairs or same-day replacements available?
Many companies offer 24/7 call-outs for break-ins, stuck locks, or damaged doors, including temporary boarding or lock changes. Confirm response times, call-out fees, and what materials they carry in stock. If a full replacement is needed, ask about temporary security measures while the new door is manufactured.
What warranties should I expect on a new door installation?
Expect separate warranties for the door product and the installer’s workmanship. Clarify coverage length, what’s excluded (e.g., weathering, misuse), and how to make a claim if you’re abroad. Keep all receipts, serial numbers, and maintenance instructions, and schedule any required servicing to keep guarantees valid.
Will the installer measure, and what if my frame isn’t standard?
A professional should carry out a site survey to take precise measurements, check the frame, hinges, and threshold, and identify any hidden issues. If openings are non-standard, options include made-to-measure doors, frame adjustments, or liners. Ensure the quote covers joinery, trims, and finishing for a tidy result.
How do I compare quotes and avoid unexpected extras?
Ask for itemised quotes showing labour, materials, hardware, disposal, making-good, VAT, and lead times. Check brand and model of the door, security rating, glazing spec, and exact scope. Confirm payment schedule, rescheduling terms, and whether aftercare visits are included, so you’re comparing like-for-like offers.

Selecting the right door installer is crucial for ensuring your home’s security and aesthetic appeal. It’s not merely about installation; it’s about finding a reliable partner who understands your needs and delivers quality work. By adhering to these dos and don’ts, you’ll empower yourself to make informed decisions that lead to a seamless installation experience, free from unpleasant surprises and regrets. Take your time, do your homework, and you’ll be on your way to enhancing your home with beautifully installed doors that stand the test of time.

Dos and Don’ts as an expat

Smart choices: dos and don’ts when picking the right door installers for your home

Do’s
Do Look for Experienced Installers
Choose door installers who have a proven track record and extensive experience in the industry. Reviews often highlight installers with several years in the business, ensuring they possess the skills and knowledge needed to handle various door types and installation challenges effectively.
Do Check Customer Reviews and Ratings
Before hiring a door installer, check online reviews and ratings from past customers. Positive feedback about workmanship, punctuality, and overall satisfaction levels can guide your choice and help ensure you select a reliable service provider.
Do Inquire About Warranty Options
Ask prospective installers about warranty options for both the doors and the installation work. A reputable installer should provide a solid warranty, which often reflects their confidence in their product and service quality, giving you peace of mind.
Do Request Detailed Estimates
When comparing door installers, request detailed estimates that itemize labor and materials costs. Clear pricing will help avoid surprises on the final bill and allows you to better assess the value each installer brings to the table.
Dont’s
Don't Hire Without Checking References
Failing to request and verify references from previous clients can lead to a poor choice in door installers. Many customers encountered issues with installation quality and timelines that could have been avoided by consulting with prior clients about their experiences.
Don't Ignore Written Estimates
Relying solely on verbal estimates can result in unexpected costs and dissatisfaction. Customers have reported being surprised by additional charges and fees that were not discussed upfront, leading to a lack of transparency and trust in the installation process.
Don't Overlook Warranty and Insurance
Neglecting to confirm the availability of warranties and proper insurance can lead to significant risks. Many customers faced challenges when installations failed or were damaged, only to discover that they were not covered due to the installer lacking the necessary protections.
Don't Rush Your Decision
Making a hasty decision without comparing multiple service providers can result in regret. Customers have noted that taking time to evaluate qualifications, reviews, and proposals often led to better overall satisfaction and a more reliable installation.
